There's really not a lot of jobs in the psychedelic industry, and less that offer a comfortable income. It's just hard to profit off of them, which is what you need to take a salary. Not trying to discourage you, but maybe there is something similarly aligned with your values that uses your whole skillset? I think you would be happiest using all of your skills for a greater purpose.
Maybe you could start a YouTube or podcast on what you've learned from them? Some useful information on integration? There is not much information about that, and I prefer not to make myself vulnerable so wouldn't enjoy a guided session (I don't think most people would), but would appreciate knowing more. VidIQ is a good place to search YouTube keywords. I wouldn't bother with it if the keywords don't look good.
To be clear, I'm still employed as a guide.
I do have a YouTube and am exploring that. Maybe I'll do a video today.
And I think that part of the reason there's little work in the field is because it's new, which also attaches to what you said about people being vulnerable. As word travels, more people will be more comfortable with it.
I think there's a problem with that whole industry. I've had traumatizing experiences with psychotherapists who had a PhD. I don't see why the psychedelic facilitation field should have less requirements. Besides, psychedelics and drugs in general tends to attract predators and with people being so vulnerable it is not difficult to fall into a dynamic that crosses boundaries, unless someone has self control.
The costs to get trained are a rip off for what it is. If course you are the top percent of people doing it, but I think the average person isn't attracted to hippie ideals and would prefer a more medical experience. So it will always be a niche of a niche until it is made safer and more palatable to the mainstream.
It takes time and trial and error for something new to get the kinks worked out.
I respect and understand your concerns and experiences, but I think that the overall conclusions may be a stretch. I think saying drugs attract predators marginalizes us as a community and people who do psychedelics. Predators are everywhere, with many not doing any drugs.
I think bad facilitation comes from facilitators not having relationships with the medicines
I trust a person who's been to the top of the Himalayas to take me there than a person who has read about it.
And I agree in some ways that training is a rip. And since I'm an autodidact and seem to be carving my path and making my way and effectively helping others, I'm not sure how necessary it is, at least for me.
I will be interested to see your thoughts on a post I am working on. It's in notes form, but it is my assessment of the psychedelic community and it is honestly not very favorable. I will be interested to see if you think I am being too harsh. I am waiting for a good moment on oral harmalas to compile everything with the right frame.
Looking forward to that post, and maybe I can add to it from an more scientific perspective. I don’t have any particular experience with an psychedelic guide other than my own guidance in a handful of cases. I do think that there’s good money to be made, and if next to this it is your goal to work towards being more involved in psychedelic guidance this is a good time to start and I wish you all the best.
@Jungleheart I look forward to it as well. I do think there are some questionable things going on in the sphere. There are also those that have no ill intent but are not prepared to do this work... yet they are doing the work.
Wow Void that's a big move! Hope your doing ok.. it can be a bit of a shock to the system. Sounds like its needed though.. so enjoy the free time for now. I'm interested in why you felt it was time to move on, if you are comfortable elaborating?
I too have mixed thoughts towards clinical use of psychedelics .I think there at least there needs to be a much more in depth training before administering psychedelics... a couple weeks of mushroom retreats doesn't cut it.
I'm sort of vaguely in favour of it all, as I desperately want to see the end to this horror show that is prohibition. But do have mixed feelings.
Prohibition of psychedelics generally has been the norm for a huge portion of civilization’s history… so there’s that! XD maybe there are other ways as well, other than through the legal system, such as a very very matured psychedelic subculture with time that has integrity.
@acacian unfortunately, due to other events and happenings, it has not been that nice aside from not being obligated to be somewhere...
They, the new owners of the company, decided to fire my boss for "bad communication" when she changed our time cards to reflect a holiday pay they said we'd get, but wasn't on our time cards... and we have yet to receive.
They are bad at communicating and fired someone for bad communication. I can't do hypocrisy like that, so I walked out with her. Her and I worked together there for almost 8 years. I called one the owners out to his face. He was very displeased with my prose and delivery.
