1st Time Extraction

Migrated topic.

Hi all, this is my first time posting here:), SWIM has done alot of research on extraction and has finally chosen SWIM's desired route. SWIM would like to do an A/B extraction with vinegar as the acid and calcium hydroxide as the base(as NaOH is not sold and watched), and Naptha to seperate the goodies from the goo. SWIM will also be using pre powdered MHRB.

This is SWIM's desired tek.
(old pro's please correct backward logic and noob mistakes.)
SWIM is going to try working with about 1/2 a kilo of mhrb and a digital ph sensor.

1.) make a solution of water and vinegar with a ph of about 3-4 (Solution A)
? - what should the ratio of Solution A to MHRB be at this point?

2.) mix MHRB powder and Solution A (creating Solution B)

3.) bring Solution B to a simmer in a rigged up boiler (pot with Solution B inside
a pot with hot water) for about 30 mins.
? - covered or uncovered ?

4.) filter out plant matter through a funnel into a glass mason jar, 1st with cotton
balls and then again with coffee filters.
(save plant matter for repeat pulls)

5.) add calcium hydroxide until the ph is 11-12

6.) add warm Naptha
? - how much Naptha and about what temp?

7.) let the jar full of solution sit and seperate for a couple of hours, suck the clear
naptha layer off the top with a turkey baster, put this into another mason jar.
(save the rest for repeat pulls.)

8.) put the jar full of the naptha layer into the freezer overnight.

9.) take jar out of freezer, shake vigorously and dump into a glass caseroule dish,
place a fan by the dish and wait for it to evaporate. Scrape the goodies and enjoy.

So what do you guys think, is SWIM making any fatal (actual or figurative) flaws with this plan? And what do you think on the ? - points?

1. use a gallon total per half pound(quarter kilo...there close) of bark. most teks will say to use a gallon 4 a lb but that/s not enuf water swim thinks.

3. swim says covered

4. cotton balls may work swim never tried but a clean white cotton t-shirt works great. U can squeeze the juice outa the bark w/o it ripping. Dont c how u can squeeze juice out with anything else. a following coffee filter filter is great too...let it decant a while before filtering...a lot of bark will settle to the bottom.

6. i'd say 130 F. Dmt freebase starts to melt at that swim believes.

8. most evaporate the naptha to a 1/3 or half of it's initial volume before putting it in the freezer. This saturates the solution more.

a couple of ?'s about this point.

1.) How long does this normaly take, are we talking hours or days?

2.) Is any sort of heat applied?

2b.) If not are there any other tactics SWIM could employ to decrease this time?

about half a day depending on how much. A fan works great especially if it's a heated room heater fan. Increase the surface area...a large flat pyrex dish works better than a jar say more. Some would say to watch out 4 dmt oxide to form this way but in swim's experience aint that big of problem.

About how much Naptha should SWIM use when he's doing a pull? Is there any kind of rule of thumb for extrapolating the amount of Naptha one should use based on the amount of MHRB?

My friend usually uses around a ml of naptha per gram of bark.

A liter of naphtha for 1kg of bark??? That seems a bit excessive to me. Won't most of that need to be evaporated before freezing?

I usually hear that 300-400mL used for a few pulls will get all the spice out.

he got it right. For a half pound about 250 ml per pull is right, 3 pulls. that's based on doin a hp per gallon so roughly 3.75 L of solution and 250 ml of solvent. Hope u aint doin a kilo at 1 time...guess it can be done in a carboy but.
