3,700 year old PSYCHOTROPIC wine

Migrated topic.
Henbane was a common additive to wines back then.

I should mention because if I don't there will be a flood of alarmists who will respond with all the dangers associated with henbane and other baneful herbs... Henbane and other baneful herbs are quite toxic and the incorrect use could have dramatic effects on your life.

Yeah but that`s not what is implied though.. It seems that appart from the wine, they say they found psychoactive resins, but they are still unidentified. But if they are still not identified, how can they know they have psychoactive properties?

I must echo endlessness--how do they "know" the effect of the "mystery resins?" Are they tryptamines of some kind, leading perhaps to a hasty assumption that they are trippy-amines? Still, I want to believe.

My old high school friend is one on the team that discovered this :p

Is it possible you can contact this guy? Nexian minds want to know.

Also, if any of the bottles were not broken.....man, I'd love to drink some trippy wine and know that I was tripping off of biblical prophesy sauce!

Maybe they went ahead and drank some, and only then realized it was psychedelic.
Wine improves with age right? Just think how good it must be after four millenia!

Some more than others.

Any bottles of wine that i come across which are over the 1000 year mark, i generally approach with caution. And i advise you all to do the same. We shouldn"t get too caught up in the moment and end up with upset stomachs.

I know this is the science forum, but while we wait for real science to be done, please do pardon me a brief romantic daliance:

Watch some old biblical-time movies, ten commandments, life of brian, ben-hur.

Then play a "sword and sandals" style d&d campaign.

Then drink some of this "wine", or brew up a middle eastern aya analogue from rue and some type of arabian acacia or something (proper research and precautions apply)....and make sure you have a beige robe and some sandals!

I was raised with bible stories--to me, an experience like that could be awesome. Or I could just pilgrimage to Israel, eat some mushrooms (manna, like in Exodus) and scratch the same itch.

Here's a pagan/biblical song referencing Canaanite wine making :)

Do you come across wines older than 1000 years often?
