Sorry, I have little experience with this plant. But I am interested in this topic, because I plan to do a San Pedro ceremony myself soon.
 
Is it possible that your herbal tea contained significant amounts of Passiflora incarnata?

MAOIs can greatly intensify the mescaline experience, though I'm not sure that it could explain the negative effects you described.

Silly question here. Why do you think it was your liver? Have you had issues with your liver in the past?

If the answer to the first question is - not sure. And your answer to the second question is - no. Then my bet is on your kidney's. You mentioned water. How much do you normally drink? The proper amount is not 8 glasses a day, it is based on your weight, skeletal muscle mass and etc. Dehydration and a few cups of some bitter tea along with some herbs could be your culprit.
 
I think as others have mentioned, I don't know if there's any compelling reason to think it's your liver specifically that was in pain. As Jamie said, digestive cramps are more likely. I've been floor-bound for atleast 6 hours of san pedro experiences before with the dried resin and even teas. I think people are variably sensitive. I think staying hydrated definitely is a good idea, it gives your body more to work with when digesting and absorbing. I think I've heard another member mew recommend ginger root for nausea/pain. I think lying down for atleast most of the come-up is a good idea from what I've heard others suggest before.
 
needless to say the epiphanies we have on drugs are never to be trusted and there is not the smallest evidence either to realistically conjecture death of abdomen pain or otherwise jump to similar conclusions.

the soma, mind is a sensitive system and the things that will upset a balance or throw a kink in a circuit somewhere are innumerable and more often than not it is a combination of different factors and situations that create a habitable environment for the disruption which we feel as painful, or feel at the very least in any case. And it is the kind of thing, especially if it is lasting, which is perfect to meditate on. It is drawing your attention to something which needs addressing, which may or may not be, technically speaking, the cause of the pain at all - yet related.

different context but i did experience something similar when I synthesized (correctly) mescalin hcl and did two separate dosages of roughly 500mg. both occasions my whole body hurt. the pain was like the pain of a headache, but throughout my body. I had very little nausea (not surprising with cleaned hcl) but the body stiffness and ache lasted quite a long time, and I was convinced I would have some kind of seizure and die if I allowed myself to doze off.
 
I work with San Pedro very often. I also drink in group ceremonies in Peru so I have seen a lot of other peoples experiences.

One way San Pedro tries to get your attention or help you find insight and healing is to focus your attention on a bodily pain. You will feel a pain in your head or stomach or anywhere, and often if you ask San Pedro what the sensation is and how you can work through it, it will start a healing process.

This goes along with what you mentioned about this possibly being a emotional or energetic blockage.

Best thing to do is to first ask San Pedro about it - sometimes just asking and being curious is all it takes for everything else to start unfolding and make sense. If this doesnt work, sometimes some sort of energy work or energy type exercise can be helpful.

If you wanted to look into this outside of ceremony, you could think about acupuncture or visceral manipulation.... Acupuncture especially can be pretty cheap sometimes - I know some spots by me only cost $15....
 
pokoi, I'm guessing you know about grapefruit's CYP3A4 inhibiting properties and that's why you drank the juice before the experience; I would imagine this can put something of a strain on the liver if your intention was to 'have a strong experience' (or even if not :)) .
 
San Pedro is not an easy plant for people to send you black magic through. In my experience it is one of the few plants that doesnt have a dark side - it is more of a saintly/heavenly plant. It naturally protects you and its own spirit wont ever bring harm to others - it is a plant of healing and love.

However, it will show you when others have sent bad magic to you, and it will show you how to change that energy into something more harmonious. With San Pedro you dont ever fight black magic - you just take the energy someone sent to harm you and use that same exact energy to empower and uplift yourself instead. All energy can change forms - once someone sends you energy you can do whatever you want with that energy as long as you recognize it. In this way, if someone attacks you, you just thank them for all the momentum you can put into accomplishing beautiful things in your life!

San Pedro could also be pointing out a personal habit of always feeling attacked, or always seeing brujeria/witchcraft.... Most people dont consciously attack others with magic - though it can happen accidentally really easy. There is a trap you can get into though of always suspecting and looking for an attack - you can create the symptoms of an attack just like a self-fulfilling prophesy.

In my experience though, if you are really being attacked by sorcery of some kind, the best thing you can do is probably drink San Pedro. And if you are unsure about your seller, then find someone else. Plenty of shops on Amazon and ebay.

And whenever you are unsure about something in ceremony with San Pedro - ask the plant. It will guide you to the answers, or the lessons, or the right questions somehow if you keep asking it...
 
I suggest when talking about hypothetical ideas such as 'black magic' , people make it more clear that this is their opinion or own belief instead of talking in more absolute terms.


As for the OP, I've never heard of people experiencing some severe pain in the liver area, though I can imagine the possibility as jamie suggested that it might be stomach/digestive related issues, maybe gases too, and that it seemed like the liver.

With psychedelics as you are aware there are variations and that you may take even the same batch and you might have very different effects.

The other thing is the possibility of other alkaloids in san pedro being in higher ratio and possibly being responsible for more somatic side effects... And while that is a possibility, I don't think we should jump to that conclusion yet.. I'd like to see more analysis of san pedro showing some that had no or little mescaline, and plenty of another alkaloid that could be possible responsible for this. My guess is that's not it.

Another question is whether that cactus was the same as you had consumed before, or if someone else consumed from the same cactus? That might give some hints about it.

You can try a smaller dose next time.. Or another cactus.

Or take a break.

Or maybe it's mescaline telling you to take care of your body, have you been treating it well?

Many possibilities, you gotta test it by changing different variables.
