A simple tek that I'm trying out.

This is the tek I'm following. Just wondering if anyone would have some suggestions and improvements for it.

100 Grams Mimosa Hostilis Root Bark (Grounded)
Two 1000mg Vitamin C tablets (Grounded)
Quart of Distilled Water
One 1/2 TBSP of NaOH (Lye)
VM&P Naptha (Do not substitute for anything else!)
Coffee filters, Cheesecloth, Wire Tea Strainers
Funnel
Quart Mason Jar
Crock Pot
Two 1/2 Pint Mason Jars
Shotglass
Pyrex Baking Dish
Freezer
Stove
pH Papers
Safety Goggles
Gloves

Be sure to always wear proper safety equipment.

Step 1.
a. Mix one quart of distilled water with one 1000mg Vitamin C tablet.

b. In a crock pot, mix thoroughly 100 grams of finely powdered Mimosa Hostilis Root Bark with enough warm distilled water / Vitamin C to completely submerge MHRB. Mix contents up well so the acidic water soaks all the bark. Do not discard the remaining water/vitamin C solution since it will be used on 2nd extraction.

d. On medium heat, allow mixture to sit for 30 - 40 minutes, stirring regularly. Then reduce stove to low heat and allow to simmer for another 45 - 60 minutes, while continuing to stir.

e. Strain liquid into a container. Repeat this to remove as much plant matter as possible. Put strained liquid aside.

* Do NOT dispose of any of the "mucky red slop" you collect from the liquid. This will be collected and tossed back into the crock pot once ALL the liquid has been filtered.

f. Add remaining water to the collected and strained plant matter and simmer on low for 45 - 60 minutes. Remember to stir. Repeat Step 1e. If you want to take the time and squeeze every bit of alkaloid out, you can repeat Steps 1e & 1f again, but with a 1/4qt of distilled water and 250mg of vitamin C on HIGH heat for an hour.

g. After ensuring that the extraction has been strained thoroughly, put in a covered container and store in freezer for 90 minutes.

h. Remove from freezer. Pour the viscous red liquid into a quart mason jar and dispose of any gray sludge

Step 2.
a. In a 1/2pint mason jar add 100mL of distilled water and heat in microwave for 90 seconds or until hot.

b. SLOWLY and CAREFULLY stir in 1 1/2TBSP of NaOH (Lye) to the hot water.

c. Slowly pour this solution into the mason jar with your extractions. The liquid will change from a dark-red, to a gray, and then black. If solution does not turn black the pH is NOT high enough and you will fail. A pH of 14 is desirable and should be measured with pH papers if possible.

d. Seal the jar and upturn it being sure to NOT shake it. Do so for 3 - 5 minutes, loosening the lid periodically to avoid any build up of pressure.

Step 3.
a. Pour out 30 - 50mL of VM&P Naptha into a shot glass and put aside.

b. Fill a separate 1/2 pint mason jar halfway with distilled water and place it in the microwave until boiling.

c. Carefully remove mason jar from microwave and place shot glass with Naptha into the jar. Let shot glass sit in this hot water bath for about 10 minutes or until Naptha is hot.

d. Open quart jar of extractions and pour in hot Naptha. Tighten lid and upend as before for about 5 - 10 minutes, ensuring all free-base DMT meets the hot solvent.

e. Place jar into a hot water bath until layers fully separate and no emulsion forms. The crystal clear layer is the solvent and where all your magic lies. Once fully separated, this clear layer needs to be carefully removed and this step repeated an additional two more times.

Step 4.
a. Using an eyedropper(ideal) or empty syringe, siphon the clear solvent layer. Make sure NOT to allow any of the other layers into the solvent. Deposit siphoned solvent into a clean mason jar. Do this for all 3 pulls.

b. Cover jar tightly and stick in freezer for 24 - 48 hours. Crystals should begin to fall out of the solvent within a few hours.

c. Pour out solvent and crystals through a coffee filter. The shards will stick to filter. There should be a substantial amount still sitting at the bottom of your jar. Collect crystals and allow to air dry. Cover with a paper towel so no dust collects.

d. Pour solvent into a new jar and return to freezer for a few days or evaporate it by air for possibly more crystals.

Looks alright.
My friend has never used asorbic acid to extract before - I'd recommend saving all the filtered plant matter so that one could re-extract with vinegar or HCl if need be.
That sounds like too little lye as well so make sure you have enough in case you need to add some. Good luck measuring pH 14 with papers, my friend just takes it to black (which is about pH 12) and adds another 50% more lye solution.
Be careful adding cold glass to hot water. A better idea is to put the glass in and them warm up the water bath.
Let us know how it goes and don't throw anything away.

Do I want the solvent to evaporate a little before I put into freezer?
Also, would using a pyrex baking pan with more surface area than a mason jar in the freezer yield more?

After about 36 hours in the freezer, I had nearly .3 grams of whitish clear crystals air drying. I reintroduced the remaining solvent into the freezer for more potential crystals. Would the lack of lye be a cause of such little result?

The person who wrote this tek said I could get a couple grams of crystal out of 100 grams of Mimosa Hostilis, but that doesn't seem likely. Thoughts?

Tips for better yields:

1) hot solvent/hot basified mimosa wine for your first pull or two, after that it doesn't really matter
2) multiple np solvent pulls with small amounts of solvent (50-75mL per pull)
3) vinegar or phosphoric acid are MUCH MUCH better than ascorbic and will increase you yields dramatically (stronger acids will pull more spice out much quicker than weaker acids)
4) larger amount of mimosa per extraction: working with small amounts of material is hard and will usually result in smaller percentage yields
5) longer acid cooks of the mimosa. I usually do 4 water changes over a 3 day period on low in a crockpot.

I'm trying it again because the yield was very lackluster. I have 1500mg of pure Vitamin C for a quart of water soaking 120g of mimosa with no heat right now. Approximately how much vinegar should I add for every quart of water to my solution? Any particular type of vinegar to use?

I do three pulls consecutively with 50ml of hot naptha. Any suggestions?

Could you explain your technique on water changes so that I have better idea.

Thanks again,
RevB
