Acacia Confusa Identification?

Hi all,

I'm currently in Thailand and have been searching for local sources of Acacia Confusia. A friend of mine told me there are lots in a local forest and took me to have a look. Personally, I'm not convinced this is the right tree but if any of the experts here could confirm one way or the other, it would be a big help.

I have lots more photos if that would help, happy to post.

That doesn't look like confusa from what I can see, which isn't much.

It depends where you are in thailand though, when I was there (south) I only saw Acacia floribunda and perhaps acacia farnesia/Senegalia catechu/Senegalia chundra.

Have a good look at the google images of confusa and be prepared to travel around a bit... obviously binoculars great if it is in flower... which is basicly a DEAD GIVE AWAY... round yellow balls... cmon!

Apologies, meant to post further images but lost connection. Was really out in the sticks. In any case, am back home now.

I'm think the tree in question was Acacia Mangium. Based on the size of the leaves (about 5 - 7 cm wide, 15 or so cm long) I don't think it is Acacia Confusa, as it's leaves appear much smaller. From what I can gather from the forum there is very little info out there about this variant, but a report from somewhere that it may be active.

I'll post a couple of more pictures of this particular tree in this post.

There was also another Acacia variant that had smaller leaves (similar size to Acacia Confusa). 'll describe that a bit more n the next post.

Was in NE Thailand, in a fairly remote jungle area.

Here is the other Acacia variant I found that I don't yet have a clue on identifying. This one had leaves quite similar to Acacia Confusa, but I couldn't view the flowers as they weren't in season.

The immature seeds pods were just starting to come through, but they were twisted whereas the Confusa ones appear straight. You can see them on one of the photos below.
