Alcohol + DMT

Just curious. I have heard many posts on people who drink a bit (or bunch) and do a DMT session and have bad trips. What is the link?

Just curious on people's thoughts on this subject. Plus does it hurt to have a beer or two then blast off, or is all alcohol a no no?

Thanks in advance for your response. I did try looking this up in the search and got extraction info, but no info on DMT + drinking alcohol. Sorry if it has been posted before. I feel it is a thing I would like to know!

Feels pretty pointless and stupid to me..but hey I also think alcohol itself is a pretty crappy toxic drug to bother with.

It kills the crystaline brilliance of the experience, in my experience. Like one of the most pointless DMT experiences(I wouldnt even all it that) I had. I just sort of melted and spun out and incoherantly rolled sideways on my bed with things looking blurry and then came down and got sick.

I dont even know why I tried it. It was a number of years ago and one of the last times I ever got drunk. At the time smoking DMT seemed like a good idea but it was just a pointless waste of time.

Haven't tried and have no interest in trying to be honest. I think the alcohol "high" is quite crap compared to most drugs and gives the worst side effects and also lasts the longest.

I have a few drinks most nights and have vaped dmt under the influence of alcohol, not proud of this but that's where I am atm. However, drinking diminishes the effects of dmt Quite noticeably as well as adds to dehydration increasing a bad hangover if your drunk.

It can however help calm your nerves, hence helping you not go to hyperspace all pegged out:shock: so I wouldn't say its a horrible idea if your very nervous but certainly wouldnt recommend it. It does dull the experience and make ime increases the amnesia effect.

this is why i would eliminate often or regular, every day use of alcohol. last time i was reading about ethanol on wikipedia i stumbled upon something. obviously the metabolic products of ethanol are carcinogenic metabolic by products .

Ethanol is not a carcinogen.[111][112] However, the first metabolic product of ethanol in the liver, acetaldehyde, is toxic, mutagenic, and carcinogenic.

but thats all it says, i dont know how quick acetaldehyde gets metabolized after.

It doesn't really seem that common at all to me here. People seem to mostly do it because it lowers their fear... But I don't recommend it. I can see why low amounts would be useful for people but in higher amounts it seems counter productive

there is plenty of other ways to go about building up the courage besides just drinking it away. Just start working with low doses of changa while doing yoga (perhaps to complex music that turns on your right brain a wee bit) before going into hyperspace. That usually melts the anxiety for me pretty well

EDIT (2022): changed my opinion on this one after a suggestion of only 1 or 2 units of alcohol max. It really seems to help inhibit the fear/ego/left brain and doesn't diminish the experience when kept very low.

Dmt is so clean and wonderful, why anyone would want to mix a toxic horrible chemical like alcohol with it is beyond me.

I agree, not really proud that both my friends and I have done this recently.

Most recently, we played a show and then got back pretty drunk and decided to
vape. I loaded some for a friend, smudged the room and then he went.
He woke up the next morning, unable to remember anything and
very disappointed he had done this.

I vaped about 50mg for about a hour. It definitely
takes away almost everything that is intense and
everything that is beautiful from the experience.

Do not recommend because it is a waste of spice.

I think that's probably good advice. Or don't indiscriminately mix psychoactives in general!

I think it depends on what kind of relationship you have with alcohol. I have vaped after a glass or 2 of wine or a bottle of beer with no ill effects and i do not think it affected my recall or the bizzarre beauty of the experience anymore than usual.
Vaping while i am slaughtered doesn"t appeal. I think moderation is the key and alcohol can be as much a tool as anything else if used correctly. I have found that my command of foreign languages improves exponentially with each alcoholic beverage that i drink of an evening.

Booze tends to mess up any psychedelic. A drink or two, over the course of an 8 hour trip is no biggie, a single drink before vaping some dmt does not sound that horrible. Getting roaring drunk before "smoking some deemsters at this party, man, it was awesome!" is not a good idea and, if you do that, you're probably an ass imo. Or at least have some growing up to do.

I have smoked DMT under the influence of alcohol twice in my life, first time I was actual drunk, don't ask me wth I was thinking, that didn't end well. Horrible experience, it was almost like DMT hyperspatially smacked me saying, "NO ALCOHOL!" Yet I did it again a few months later, this time I had however only had 2-3 beers. But that didn't matter, it turned out to be zero enjoyment or value in the trip. There seems to be very small potential for synergy with DMT and alcohol.

I prefer to meditate before blasting off.

Well said totally agree. We used to have 2-3 beers blast off then drink more beer after it and not smoke again, we had something to talk about and had some of the best times in this setting, dmt isnt my religion or anything though I respect it and I never got the vibe that this is a terrible combination. This oh its terrible, you wont remember a thing, its a big no no is complete crap sorry to say. I remember everything when I drink alcohol anyway, never get into such states where I dont and some of my most memorable breakthroughs were in this setting. It eased the nerves and helped facilitate amazing experiences, this was at the start when we first discovered dmt and were doing that anyway every weekend, as I cut back on these gatherings I would smoke it straight, with aya etc. Id easily sit have a few beers with friends or a glass of wine smoke dmt come back and get drunk today, sure I will be judged for such behavior but then what does that say about the judges?

there seems to be quite an over reaction to alcohol imo. If you don't like it don't do it, but theres nothing wrong with it if you do, seems a bit like substance snobbery to me.

ive had a few beers or glass' of wine before hand with no adverse effects what so ever, I don't get smashed so I cant comment on that but a friend of mine does and he always reports equally amazing experiences drunk or not.

with dmt I don't think it matters so much. I am a daily drinker and I have had many full breakthroughs while intoxicated. I did not notice any diminished effects or negative ones. that's just my personal experience though and although alcohol is toxic it is much more widely excepted. so I'm guessing people who are not a member of our community would disagree with a lot of the posts and probably think we are crazy for choosing a powerful psychedelic like Dmt as safer or less toxic even though it is.

Your likely not the best judge of clarity if your a daily drinker, no offence. It takes a while for that clarity to come back.

I've never tried it, but I met a guy at a spin jam who said that whenever he smoked spice, he's always have half a shot of whiskey beforehand, just to calm his nerves.

I don't know if a small amount like that would have any anxiolytic effects, it may have just been placebo/ritual to help him, but he said that it opened him up to the experiences without damping it at all.

I doubt half a shot would have any ill-effects on the spice.

Being drunk on the other hand I think would not mix well.

If that is the case i would say that over 70% of the adult population who live in my region should be in rehab! Almost everyone i know has an aperitif before dinner and wine with it. I do not drink daily but think there is a difference between having to drink each day and choosing to drink each day.
