ammonium hydroxide instead of lye?

could ammonium hydroxide be used instead of lye? has anyone here tried this if so did it work well or is it a waste of time? if this has been done how much should be used?

i dont think its a very strong base... probably wont bring the pH up high enough.

You only need pH of around 11-12, ph of 13 helps reduce emulsion. SWIM states that if you are using powered bark, this is acceptable, bark in large pieces, no you need a higher pH.

Granted SWIM acknowledges that he is not chemist professionally, so take what he says with a grain of salt.

SWIM has very successfully used ammonia for extracting DMT from chacruna and chapilonga and bufotenine from yopo and got fantastic yields. But SWIM prefers food grade sodium carbonate because it's healthier.
