Nice work. It will be interesting to see if you can hydrolyse that amide without wrecking the whole molecule. It must be fairly hard to resist the impulse to try reducing it :twisted:The amide will also cyclize quite readily to 1,2-dimethyl-1,2,3,4,-tetrahydro-β-carboline (2-methyl-tetrahydroharman).
