Any opinions about the variations of L. williamsii?

Hi all,

On Koehres they have so many varieties of L.w. seeds that its difficult to decide on one.

What is the most stable variety? The easiest to grow? The hardiest? I've read that var. El Oso gets big and is somewhat easy.

Any thoughts? or opinions? recommendations?

i always liked caespitosa, because it looks incredibly easy to propagate at an exponential rate (Assuming you got enough pereskiopsis).
jourdaniana is cool too, because it is the only loph with spines (it is thought to be a hybrid of williamsii and turbinicarpus lophophoroides - idk if that would affect the psychoactivity), and it pups like mad, just like caespitosa - and it has a purple flower, rather than pink (Which most lophs have)

apparently grafting reduces alkaloid content, but i highly doubt that can't be fixed by stressing the plant.

as for the hardiest species, and easiest to grow:
i would have to defer you to hostilis, or one of the other loph experts.

i forget the scientific term for it, but the mutated one looks really cool, and discrete!

It is not legal here, and would be a lifetime of paranoia, so i never did any growing.

Caespitosa is pretty awesome but in terms of alkaloid content i've heard it's a lot lower than the solitary williamsii variations. Texana is supposed to be a pretty good variation. Personally I just grow the var. williamsii, var. caespitosa and var. decipiens (which can be argued to be fricii or even it's own species).

And the jourdaniana are awesome. I have one growing, but I would never eat it because of it's rarity.

Sorry, didn't really answer your question. (I'm not a loph expert by the way parsh, lol) I've been focusing so much on just grafting them that I haven't even looked into the hardiness and that sort of thing. Lol.
