Any thoughts on Phalaris snuff?

Soloist

Esteemed member
I make my own Rapèh from homegrown Rustica tobacco.
With many different recipes and cultures in the Amazon, I have read about tribes also making psychoactive snuffs with DMT containing plants as well.
Which is quite intriguing..
Rapèh is powerful medicine even with just tobacco as the main ingredient.

I have some Phalaris “Big Medicine” clones That I'm thinking about processing into a snuff.
Being it’s known that Phalaris can contain gramine and other undesirables, I am a little hesitant.
Though, I feel that the gramine content would be a concern really if I would be extracting a lager portion. I’ve read a number of reports on erowid with simply smoked leaf material having lightly psychedelic effects (which would be the goal pretty much).

Just wanted to put this thought out there to this community and see what your take on it is..

I would be very interested in hearing opinions on this as well. Rapèh has been an immensely powerful medicine for me, especially while I was traveling through Peru and had a few ceremonies. It's a potent grounding medicine that can really make you feel a deep connection with nature in a way that's hard to describe.

I think some tribes include psychedelic substances in their Rapèh, such as basified crushed yopo (anadenanthera peregrina) seeds, but I have never tried any so can't tell what it's like.

That would be awesome to have an experience like that in a traditional way. I’ve been finding my own path and relationship with this powerful spirit and have found it very rewarding.
This story was very influential in my craft, the green uncured tobacco captivating me, being something I haven’t seen talked about anywhere else.
How does that line up with your experience in Peru Nydex?
Rapèh has become an integral part of my larger dose mushroom rituals for the solstice/equinox.
My blend right now consists of rustica, mugwort and sacred lotus stamens (nelumbo nucifera). All locally harvested allies.
I have the first growth Phalaris harvested and dried. From what I understand, that it is the most potent time to harvest, with each successive growth being less so. Pretty sure I read that in The Phalaris project a while back.
-It’s really not that much, maybe if I’m lucky only enough to get a small taste.
Perhaps I’ll give it a go this upcoming full moon before my usual mushroom ritual. I don’t like to use the Rapèh outside of those few times a year but I can make an exception here and there.
I will document here when/if I do for sure.

That is inspiring.
Awesome.
Thank you for pointing me in that direction.

I’ll admit I’m not very active here, and never really read much of that thread…read from page 18 on after you posted and, wow, what a wealth of information and experiences.

I would love to know more about your experience with this roa.
Did you ever give it a solid go with insufflation ?

Yes a lot of valuable info is buried within that long thread. Probably is best to screen it and extract the most valuable discoveries into more practical compact thread.. we're trying to accomplish in the nexian phalaris breeding program.

I haven't tried it again for health concern about inhaling very fine powder dust into my lungs... I basically started sneezing then started feeling really euphoric and relaxed... Few minutes later had to stop grinding leaves and layed down to ride that beautiful psychedelic wave ... It was the smoothest of all my experiences with aquatica but it was also mild .

I’m definitely going to have to do that . Especially now that I’m on the cusp of learning Phalaris.

As far as your concern with inhaling fine dust, I may be able to help…
Perhaps try using a Kuripe to administer the phalaris powder. It’s the traditional self administration pipe for Rapèh. You could buy or make one very simply.
I made one from bamboo, twine, and beeswax.
Given that you are blowing the powder into your own nasal cavity, you cannot inhale it into your lungs. It’s simply not possible.
It’s really not your lungs you want anyway, but your olfactory epithelium to absorb the compounds.

If you do end up giving it a go, it should be as fine as possible, I can’t say what that translates to or or how fine the dust you inhaled is, but I can say that I have had great success using one of those “kuireg type” reusable filters to sift the ground material after I grind it in a mortar and pestle.

Link fixed!

PS-I'd be rather wary of the possibility of mould spores being on the grass material, so be sure to check it meticulously before trying this ROA with plain plant material!

Sage advice. Thank you.
Never would have thought of that.
I will definitely be aware of that possibility.
Some herbs are wild harvested and some I grow myself, but I never purchase. I know the quality of all my constituents 100%

That’s fantastic. Mugwort has been such an ally over the years.
I mainly use the flowers but looks like I’m going to have to explore the stalks as well!
