"Artist Takes Every Drug Known to Man, Draws Self Portraits After Each Use"

Migrated topic.
Wow that's really quite something... Personally I think it's too bad he doesn't take more psychedelics. His one DMT drawing is pretty sweet. Although I must admit I like the IV morphine one the best, his color usage in that one is pretty epic.

The bath salts one makes bath salts seem that much more appealing..

Some of the portraits done under the influence of pharmaceuticals are quite disturbing. The psilocybin portrait made me laugh, it was quite an intriguing gallery to go through.

I like how the DMT one has two parts. I think the really scribbly part was his attempt to draw while actually under the influence. The diagram at the bottom was probably done immediately following comedown. Very interesting take on the experience.

The shroom one is awesome.

Just checked the link, damn. The article I viewed the other day didn't have half the portraits on this one. The DMT portrait is pretty fascinating, I agree with Guyomech's hypothesis of the during and after effect on the portrait. The opiate and antipsychotics are consistently disturbing and fucked up, what a champ to put himself through so many different mindstates in the name of art

Cephalexin?

i was wondering about that myself... & while he was getting off on antibiotics, he seems to have forgotten the Cactus & the LSD... i'm hoping his project is ongoing, those seem like some pretty glaring holes in the "every drug known to man" bit...

Some good art here.......but why no fentanyl? :)

Opiates are very well represented here. I saw morph, morph + another, delauded, and maybe another one also. That's plenty.

His art is great, but some of his work is a little too out there for my taste.

He has a painting called "fucking painting", he came up with the name because he applied some paint to a canvas and literally had sex with it.

This series of work, however, was awesome.

Interesting idea. I thought the IV morphine portrait was the most appealing. I loved the texture he had created with the paint.

Thanks for sharing the link! I think I might just bookmark it 😁

Much love,
Sally xx

i went to his website to see if there was more, on his webiste he says...
"Within weeks I became lethargic and suffered mild brain damage. I am still conducting this experiment but over greater lapses of time. I only take drugs that are given to me."
In other words, dont try this at home lol.
some cool art though, the bath salts one was pretty disturbing. I agree with you Guy i think he did the 2nd dmt drawing just after comedown its a pretty cool attempt to comminicate what he saw. The psilocybin one was pretty awesome, which brings me to my next question.

Have any artists here experimented with doing art while in altered states? I usually just smoke some herb. I have tried drawing while on mushrooms a few times, it was very interesting but not really coherent. The one time i really tried I had been working on this peice for a couple weeks just getting the sketch right. It was a shaman lookin guy wearing a robe, holding a staff with a yin yang floating above the staff. Next to him I drew pretty accurately the cluster of mushrooms that we made into tea that day, it was a pretty cool little cluster of 5-6 good lookin mushrooms all still connected. So I drew all that before the trip, then while i was peaking I tried to work on it for a bit. It was intense, It pulled me in and I felt like I was channeling somethign, like I didnt even know what my hand was drawing. It was like I started to really see this crazy intricate picture on the blank page, and it started looking like a woman or a goddess. I felt like I was tracing more than drawing. Maybe if I would have focused more and stuck with it for a while it would have turned into something, but it didnt look like much the next day (although it did help me remember that crazy picture i was seeing on the blank page).
Another time, I ended up in jail while peaking on bridgessi (long story). I was trying to fill out the booking paperwork but when i tried to write it felt like my hand wanted to do somethign else. So I just flipped the paper over and started drawing on the back. It was very absract, hard to explain but It was really fun to do that. The cop was even impressed with it lol. Too bad ill never see that one again.

Anyway, maybe i should just do another thread for this discussion im not sure but Id like to talk more about making art, visual or musical, while in altered states.

If you do start that thread, I've got several paintings that were done start to finish on 3-500ug of acid. Almost started that thread myself. I blame all the distractions. But please PM me if you do.

meh. As lovely as it would be to be able to perfectly capture the the subjective feeling of an altered state in a work of art, it's just not possible, and I find some of the attempts to be particularly insulting. I think most of the sketches were poor representations at best, and it seemed like he didn't even try for some of them. Don't get me wrong, he's a good artist, I'm just baffled by the fact that the such grand experiences only inspired him enough for him to portray his own face repeatedly. Also, if he was trying to draw self-portraits that allow us to compare the perceptual changes brought on by various drugs, the constant change of medium made such comparison extremely hard and convoluted.
