Hello all,
Thanks to this website and the forums, I've finally discovered and tried DMT. First a little about myself first, I suppose ...
I'm in graduate school working on my molecular biology PhD; I find the entire subject absolutely fascinating, as I am sure you all do as well. Chemistry has always been one of my least favorite subjects, but at the same time I've always had some strange addiction to it, so we'll get back to that. Currently some of my research involves the novel protein PANDER (Pancreatic DERived factor) or FAM3B. It plays a role in glucose intolerance and may also be a chemical signal for those with early onset pancreatic cancer (if you don't know, pancreatic cancer is the worst one to get, if you're diagnosed, you have less than a 5% chance of surviving). My research is exploring intracellular sequestration of the protein utilizing confocal microscopy and also using the technique to explore more in detail which specific cell types in certain tissues express the protein, both on the mRNA and protein level. Anyways ... enough about that.
Anyways, some chemistry experience comes mainly from taking organic chemistry during my undergraduate years (having to take orgo I twice of course) and especially taking the labs, where at the end of almost all of them, the last step was an extraction step. How and why this works is very clear to me because of it. I also took an elective class called bio-molecules, the the guy was really fond of the subject and made it fun. It was basically orgo II but more detailed and put towards real world shit, like protein function with drugs and shit like that. The subject is very interesting, because after all, you are a sac of chemical reactions. So by now I've taken quite the knack to chemistry ... not that I would ever make a career out of it (even though it is extremely lucrative, a lot of viagras and lipitors to develop), just that I've learned a lot about the world of organic chemistry by being exposed to it. More and more are the sciences become more integrated, which is awesome. Less "distinguising names" to sciences need to to exist and understand science on more of a continuum, integrating physics with chemistry with biology and etc etc. I just think it is really neat reading some threads on here; they are quite amazing, actually. How do some of you guys have the resources to take a drug like DMT and run it in an H1 NMR machine or mass spec?!? I just think stuff like that is awesome
*** so someone else stole (someone other than myself) my laptop and finished up the essay apparently ..... ***
SWIM has always been very fond of psychedelics, though he hasn't done them that often. Psilocybin cubensis (magic mushrooms) have always been a favorite of mine, and SWIM has done them five times ... all of them very enjoyable. These drugs really open up your mind and make you question what is normal. DMT, as SWIM just recently discovered, does this very well. SWIM was never able to get a hold of the drug himself, so he was forced to extract it! On the third attempt, SWIM was able to successfully extract about 10 grams of jungle spice using the jungle tek method on these forums. The first try SWIM just had some shitty MHRB poweder, the second time SWIM fucked up the acetone wash and could (and should) have just not done that and left it alone after the toluene pulls, and then the third time he got it spot on. At first SWIM was left with an oily brown substance, but left to dry under heat lands and a fan for 24 hrs, and after some stirring, a peanut butter like substance (the color and texture resembles peanut butter as well) was obtained. Boy was he excited to pack it up in a bowl and smoke it, which leads up to SWIM's first and most awesome experience:
The first time SWIM tried it, it was fucking amazing. SWIM has a buddy who is a lot more experienced than SWIM, so he helped SWIM "blast off", that is, SWIM smoked about 75 mg's of it. Fuck was it amazing ... I've heard of achieving that "out of body experience" with DMT, but didn't really believe it until it happened. SWIM is fairly certain he was exploring his subconscious. Control of my physical self was lost, but the conscious awareness of a physical self was still there; breathing was almost a distraction. As SWIM came down, he never felt in a more euphoric state of mind. SWIM then went on to do it again, and he has to say that it was not that enjoyable. SWIM smoked a good amount, and decided that this time he would keep his eyes open ... this turned out to not be a not so good idea. The visual and sound hallucinations were very overwhelming ... and he is sad to report that he almost freaked out. My world looked like a painting from Dali, with repeating geometric shapes. All SWIM could think about, unfortunately, is how he did way too much. The feeling was that of a bad dream, those kinds that, during the dream, leave you almost paralyzed; unable to speak or move or have any control. When you wake up from these dreams, you just feel like absolute shit. That's what SWIM felt like this time.
But SWIM went on to try more, and become more comfortable and even more amazed with it. Just recently SWIM smoked little by little, at first having that nervous pit feeling, but almost become enlightened at one point, remembering that it was simply "ok" what was happening to him.
Thanks for reading, and thanks again for such an awesome website.
