Atropine extract

Hi, quick question.

If one was using acetone to extract Atropine from the belladonna plant, would the Atropine be in the acetone or the plant material?

My searches were contradictory, various sources state Atropine will extract into nonpolar solvents and other sources claim it will extract into the polar solvents.

I know Atropine extracts from the plant material into boiling water, and like water Acetone is polar but....... that’s boiling.

it will be in acetone but dunno in withch concentration..anyway man,be very carefull with this stuff,it could poison you even if you wet your hand with the acetone solution so be very carefull,what are you planning to do with it? :?

Why are you thinking of concentrating the alkaloids from belladonna plant? That sounds extremely dangerous!

First of all Belladonna doesnt only contain atropine but also other alkaloids such as scopolamine, hyoscyamine and others are also present. Secondly, you cannot know the concentration in your specific plant, it may be 0.2%, it may be 2%, or who knows it may be more/less.

Tropane alkaloids are extremely toxic, can easily kill you. We in the Nexus strongly oppose concentrating these alkaloids.

So if Atropine is soluble in acetone then it shouldn’t go into a non polar solvent?

Yeah definitely not interested in ingesting it...... been there done that..... Never again!

Actually I have made eye drops before from belladonna by boiling and filtering, and it worked but gave me blurred vision for a few days.

So... this time I was hoping to clean it up a bit by soaking the plant matter in a nonpolar solvent before boiling the plant matter in water.

The mere fact that you use acetone shows a level of amateurism which should already be prohibiting in your belladonna endeavours. Acetone is neither the best solvent for extracting alkaloids in general nor (and please pay attention here) the best thing to drop in your eyes.

beyondcrazy you could even do a cream with theese alkaloids maybe with mayonese or water/oil cream...but it's very dangerous,very dangerous so maybe you could apply a cm skin and work up

Even if the smallest particles of tropane alkaloids become airborn, they can mess you up. This method is actually used for some rather nasty street muggings in some places in south America. I guess that's probably the reason this thread's leaving a nasty taste in the back of my throat.

This is true. Tropanes are being used this way because they're completely debilitating. People will handout everything they own voluntarily and not remember anything at all.

Shamans sleep under brugmansia trees, because even a very tiny bit of pollen will enhance their dreams and cause lucid dreaming. Tropanes are active (and also lethal) in mere micrograms. You could easily fit a deadly dose on a blotter.

I think you misread my post, or perhaps I didn’t explain myself properly.

I am NOT! using Acetone for extraction; I am using a nonpolar solvent to wash the plant matter and then using boiling water for the extraction.

So I will not be dropping acetone into my eyes..... That would be really dumb! lol.

Thanks for the info but.... This is not an attempt to get delirious from the alkaloids.
I have tried Belladonna before and will never ever use it again!
I’m just making eye drops to dilate my pupils.

I’m always touching my plant.... grooming it and smelling its beautiful fragrance and I’ve never even gotten so much as a dry throat, and being a prior belladonna user I’m very familiar with its effects....

I'm mostly water, but if I purify my environment enough so that it's mostly water I drown.

If you have in your body a certain dosage of tropane alkaloids, you will go crazy and then die. Hopefully you won't take anyone with you.

There's a difference between sniffing a flower and grouping a many flowers, rejecting all but a few choice elements and then snorting it right into your poor little brain

ppppfff why you would make an eyedropper? you will be almost blind for days after using it,if not to have delirium why you would do it omg?? nosense imo during 1700 women used it for their eyes,hence the name 'belladonna' that in italian means beautyfull woman,doctors use it too,but couse soetimes is necessary it,not just for fun or for pupil muscles bodybilding :roll: :lol:

You have to realise that tropane-threads are always received with a bit of scepticism around here.

Like i said before...deadly in mere micrograms. A deadly dose of atropine would even be hardly visible to the naked eye, and a dose that would cause permanent braindamage could be like..invisible to the naked eye.

An amateur chemist playing around with substances like tropanes or strychnine scores high on the russian-roulette scale... or darwin award potential as some put it in a less sympathetic way.
