Avoiding the ammonia wash in Noman's tek

Hey guys! Been a little while since I've been online but SWIM came across a little issue for lack of better words. Anyways:
SWIM HATES using ammonia in order to clean xtals. So, he is looking for an alternate method of producing clean spice.
What's SWIYs favorite method for doing so?
What's the best method?
What's the easiest method?

Follow the tek without doing the ammonia wash. The spice will be clean enough to smoke then.
If you want it cleaner dissolve the spice using hot solvent. Ad a small amount of hot solvent to your powder and it will become saturated leaving behind a gooey mess of fats,waxes and other stuff you don't want.

Would you do this right before a recrystalization? Like...
Do the stb -->
freeze precip -->
pour off naptha and dry crystals --->
add a small amount og hot solvent to dissolve everything -->
Wash with sodium carbonate water & then twice with water -->
leave to dry/cool slowley at room temp then feezer.

Right?
 
When my friend did the extraction the sequence was:

Do the STB -->
Collect all naptha from different pulls together -->
Wash with sodium carbonate water X 3 -->
freeze precip -->
pour off naptha and dry crystals --->
add a small amount of hot solvent to dissolve everything -->

leave to dry/cool slowley at room temp then feezer.

He only did the recrystalisation to get some good looking crystals. The SC wash left everything fluffy white, after the 1st freeze pecip!

He also changed Vovins SC wash slightly by always using a little bit of SC in each of the 3 washes. He found on his 1st attempt that some spice migrates to the water if no SC is used. There doesn't seem to be any disadvantage to always using SC in the wash. The SC / water mix just gets clearer after every wash. Others may say different, but this worked perfectly for him.
 
I have thought for about 3 months that it was Normans tek. It is actually Nomans tek. It must be my dyslexia...

You are a brave man. Smoking lye is NOT fun, and that is the really the only reason I asked this question in the first place. I think SWIM will try both methods highlighted in Vovin's tek and get back to you guys on that.
Until then, are there any other suggestions/methods?
 
Honestly, if you have been careful not to get any lye water in your pulls and you do an SC wash and re crystalise as well, you will have very pure spice. Unless you have trouble doing this for any reason, it should be fine. I'm not sure about other methods though, maybe someone else will post.

Just so you know, Noman has stated on this site that he regretted including an ammonia wash in his tek, likely because it's nasty and a pain to implement. The first (and last) time SWIM did a proper STB (without the acid treatment he usually did in prior extractions), SWIM noticed a lot of lye/bark water sticking in his separatory funnel, so he prepared a sodium carbonate solution to buffer that nastiness and wash it out of his funnel before collecting the limonene.

He never bothered doing this when using naphtha, though not necessarily because it wasn't a proper STB (he didn't have separatory funnel then, so he can't compare), but partly because he just used to siphon and pipette. He always did a partial evap with a dish over a crockpot and freeze-preciped in those days, and really didn't have any problems with his product. He didn't do this for too long before switching to FASA, though, which made up the bulk of his extraction experience until limonene STB and limtek.
