B. Caapi Leaf Extraction Question

Migrated topic.
I just got my shipment of B. Caapi and I'm excited to make a changa blend. I would like to make 10x caapi changa but I haven't seen any teks for using caapi leaf. They all seem to use caapi vine. Would I follow the same instructions as a caapi vine extraction procedure?

it takes 30 days to do that. you have to soak your leafs in IPA for 30 days. keep them in dark place all the time. after 30 days you evaporate almost allof it.Then add 1g or 2g of fresh leafs that you put aside before and evaporate it all. thats it. to decide how much fresh leafs to use depends how strong to you want it to be.

example: 20g of leaves evaporated onto 1g will give you 20x. if you want 10x caapi you use 2g of fresh leafs. and so on.

This is the way I have done it but Ice House said it can be done in one day by just boiling the leafs and then reducing to a small amount then infuse it all in fresh leafs. I think thats the way he said it could be done also. Maybe if you PM him or he may come here to say how he did it.

Great thank you very much. I won't be able to test my new product for about a month anyway so I don't mind the long 30 day soak. I would imagine heat would increase the speed of extraction though.

Just another question. I've heard on some other threads that acetone doesn't dissolve harmalas properly. I used acetone for making my 10x caapi extract using the 30 day soak method, will this be a problem and will I need to use a different solvent?

And Ill say it again: Do NOT use acetone or IPA as solvents for harmalas, they are very poor solvents for these alkaloids. Use ethanol (which isnt so good either but significantly better than the last two) or do an a/b extraction and manually add the harmalas to your changa.

If you already used acetone or IPA, resoak with ethanol or add the leaf to some aya brew.

Ah shitty... so even if I'm not trying to extract actual harmala crystals but instead am trying to make 20x caapi leaf, acetone won't work? I'm using smokerx's technique with acetone instead of IPA:

Would 40 proof vodka work for ethanol? Otherwise would denatured ethanol work (I hear this is poisonous)?

That tek is not mine by the way. Anyway you should use IPA as I said not acetone. I do not think acetone will do the job. Acetone is good for salvinirin A extraction making enhance salvia leafs but not for harmalas. Why did you go for acetone ?

Its not about making crystals or not, its about the fact that very little (or not much) harmalas will dissolve in IPA. Sure some will, but you will most likely be leaving a significant portion of harmalas behind. With acetone, even worse, it barely dissolves harmalas at all. Dont use denatured alcohol, it has some substance to make it undrinkable which might be toxic or make it taste really bad, and who knows what kind of byproducts the combustion of it will generate.

Yeah some normal 40% vodka might work. At least I would try it if you got no higher proof ethanol.

Aww okay. So I guess I'll just evap the acetone, then I'll add ethanol (151 proof vodka) to the leaves once they're dry, then soak for a few weeks. Thank you for the help guys.
