Hey guys, thanks for stopping in!

So a friend noticed something strange happening in his most recent extraction.

The tek was Cyb's Salt Tek.

He was just on the water bath after the acidification step. The mixture is stirred and not shaken. Due to unexpected occurrences, he had to leave the extraction at this step overnight. The next day, he noticed that the bark/acetic acid solution had turned black(the color is more of a very dark violet) around the cap. He also noticed what looked like beads of rust developing under the cap.

How will all this effect the mixture? I feel I should carefully remove all the black stuff from the top of the bottle and cap, and proceed with no contact with the cap. I avoid contact fully after the basification stage, as I didn't expect much problem at this stage.

--------Pictures are attached-----

Notes on the cap:

Its a metal cap, magnetic, with no seal inside, the botle and cap are Arizona brand.

any idea what is up?

He wonders if the mixture is tainted somehow by the lid? The only components of the mix currnetly are water, Vinegar, and MH

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Sounds to me like your vinegar corroded the metal cap. I highly doubt it will cause any problems, but to be safe you could scrape some off and try to dissolve it in a small amount of the nonpolar solvent you plan on using. If it dissolves, chalk this one up as a learning experience and try again from scratch.
