Last month i spent a week in belize scuba diving, and wanted to make a post about some things i observed about the area i stayed at.

First ill start with the most common ethnicities found in belize. Specifically i was staying in the town of hopkins.
It is a real melting pot of ethnicities, the way my guide described it to me, he said usa is known as melting pot, but here we are rice and beans. (his way of saying its a melting pot in belize.)
There are people with aztek ancestors, and then there are creole. i was told there are two types of creole, a more african influenced creole, and a more american south influenced creole.
There are also asians and indians, but they are the minority. Most of the grocery stores and what not are owned by the asians. There are some expats, but not as large as peurto rico.
People there are generally very friendly and welcoming, carribean island vibes. Laid back, might take awhile to checkout from a store if shopkeeps friend comes by.

Now onto the weed situation, Belize actually outranks jamacia's populations amount of people who smoke cannabis. My first 5 minutes in town a guy on a motercycle shouted GREENS at me.
They also have shrooms, cocaine and crack. i asked about some other drugs but they said its rare. Mainly cocaine and cocaine accessories, cannabis, and shrooms. lots of prostitutes.
I was easily able to score some ganja, a quarter was about $40 to give an idea of prices.

Visually its a beautiful tropical country, and sports the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world, with the great barrier reef being the largest.
Water was warm, was around 80f while we were there. Weather is hot and humid, with most of the country being rainforests and jungles.
Jaguars are common there, and there was a preserve but we dident go because it was expensive.
It is also home to one of the most famous blue holes, that was also expensive so we dident go to see it.

Attached are a few of my favorite photos/videos i took. We had a cheap diving camera so i was able to get some diving pics and videos.

I've never been to Belize. We have been to Costa Rica & Panama. I'd like to spend more time in Central America. It's really beautiful and the people were friendly.

I was traveling with my family, so not approached with drug or prostitutes offers. The few times I went around the corner to "stretch my legs" I was immediately approached. Coca leaves in Bocas Del Toro, PA and anything you wanted in La Fortuna, CR.
