Best tool to use to pull/draw naptha out of jars?

Ok I've tried using glass syringes (that ended up breaking) and two 60ml plastic rubber syringes that basically froze up after a couple of quick pulls.

There has to be a better way to extract naptha from bark & lye mix, so what are you guys using that is the easiest?

As it stands right now I'm open to all ideas since I'm out of syringes.

You can also invest in a separatory funnel

The other option is first a crude separation of most/all solvent with maybe some mimosa liquid to a taller thinner container, and then making an easier separation because the layers will be more distinct (either decanting, but be careful with spilling solvent, or then using the a pippete or turkey baster to pull it out). The last bit that you cant accurately separate, just throw back in the main mix, to go togheter in the next pull

IMO the best way is to use a turkey baster for the pulls. But to get everything out, when doing the last pull try instead to flood the jar by filling it with more water. Collect the naphta that flood over by placing the jar in a another container. Voilà!

SWIM experimented a lot with decanting, syringes, pippetes and sep funnels. When she started she had no experience with sep funnels and decided they are no good. But recently she has tried them again and understood that they actually work very fine. One caveat - when almost all basified black solution is drained, stop and wait untill the black goo that stuck to the funnel walls slowly trickles down. Then you drain it very carefully drop by drop. Through the glass wall of the stopcock you can see exactly when all the goo is gone.

Sep funnels allow you to get almost all your naphta separated. With syringes and pippetes SWIM always had ~5-7 ml left in the goo. Decanting is the worst.

Not for use with Xylene or Toluene

I really like the idea of using fish pump hose to elongate the tip of the baster, this would make it much easier to hand pump naptha out with a nice long, control able tube. I think I'm going to try that idea next.

Will the naptha eat the plastic/rubber squeezeball? Is there a special kind of turkey baster I should be looking for?

Seems it would be much easier on the hands than these hard syringe pulls.

These separatory funnels seem like the ticket also, but how easy is it to clean the stems/valves of all of the sludge so that when the naptha runs through it doesnt pick up any of it?

Anyone have an idea the cheapest place to buy these?

What would I do, take the mason jar mix and dump it in one of these for the final split? As opposed to skipping the mason jar & just making/mixing/shaking it all in the funnel?

I picked up a clear HDPE mustard squeeze bottle like you see at old school burger joints at Wally World and attached a length of tubing to the tip. Squeeze out, dip the tubing into the solvent, release and draw up until you see brown/black dribbling in. Much like Acolon is talking about.

It took me a little work to get the lid to stay on tight enough to create a strong, airtight seal, but once I did I simply had to laugh at my previous methods of decanting (careful pouring, gluing syringes together, etc). It has also dramatically cut down on wasted time/product.

No, naptha won't eat the plastic bulb, Xylene and Toluene WILL. But for naphtha it is fine.

Seriously, scrap the baster and get a clear nasal aspriator. It'll save you so much time and grief... I promise. You can find them at the grocery store or at any pharmacy. Look in the infant supplies.

I use a turkey baster right now, this aspirator seems like a good tool though, I remember my mom getting snot outta my nose with it, so it must be at least somewhat useful. Add a bit of rubber tubing and I dont even have to get my hand near basified shit.

Although using semi-dry lime teks makes this a non-issue, tilt bowl, done. SWIM is not going to push that any further than that.

For fully-liquid polar-non-polar mixes SWIM used to use a turkey baster + plastic bag. Although using a smaller container as a replacement for the bag.

Use the turkey baster just suck up all the naptha and don't worry too much about getting the bottom layer as well, squirt the liquid into a plastic bag.

Once all the naptha and likely equal parts lye-water in the plastic bag you can do one of two things.

1: tilt the bag, cut the bottom and drain off the bark, pinching when you get to the naptha.
this will get 90-95% of the naptha in gooey mixes (Like MHRB + lye), 95-99% in clear mixes (like sodium carbonate washes, or limonene + vinegar)

2: use the turkey baster to suck out the bottom layer. This should work pretty well, admittedly SWIM never tried it, he hasn't used lye for months now.

Never needed anything but a glass eyedropper. Most people use far too much naptha. ~70ml of naptha holds a gram of spice. 3 pulls of 30ml is more than plenty for ~100g of bark. Leave the jars for pickling and the basters for Thanksgiving. Get a fat bottle with a thin neck. Much simpler to separate in the thin neck than a wide jar. See?

This is what swim used for his first extraction, and it worked pretty well. If he accidentally sucked up some water he returned everything to the brew and flushed the bulb with fresh solvent and tried again. His bulb is blue rather than clear though, he didn't know they made clear ones, that would be even better.

Why do you like the baby aspirators better, because they have a tighter suction? I assume its more controllable?

I will take a look today to see if I can find a clear one & some tubing to match.

On another note, after I pulled my SC water from the naptha, I pulled a little naptha with it & this jar has been sitting for a couple of days & now it seems that translucent crystals have formed in between the naptha & SC water layers?

Any idea what it is?

Should I just suck up the crystals and let them form with the rest of the DMT in the freezer or should I try to extract them on their own cause they're super pure?

Anyone have an idea if I took 600's of yellow naptha and let it sit out with a bunch of SC water in the same jar... would I get a bunch of pure crystals like this?

Could this possibly be a new way to let DMT form?

I assume the DMT in the naptha sunk to the bottom of the naptha, but on top of the SC water forming crystals between the 2 layers?

If you dont have a sep funnel then endlessness's trick does wonders. Instead of pulling directly into the evaporation/precipitation container, I do a crude pull with a big baster into a tall thin champagne glass... let settle and pull most out into the dish with a clean baster and the rest with a glass pipette. Chuck the tiny bit of solution and solvent thats left back into the extraction jar, easy!

Yeah I pulled one out with a scalpel, its like a little piece of glass, its hard but super fragile. Its crazy.

How can I tell what it really use? (I assume its DMT, but just want to make sure its not some weird by-product.)

I'm going to let about 600cc's worth of yellow naptha sit out room temp on top of SC water and see if anything forms after a day or so... Maybe I'll have luck like this last time

On another note, what have you guys figured out to do with this sludge when you do all 4 pulls?

Can I just flush it?

But if I have several jars to flush... will that hurt anything?

I'd imagine those crystals would only be one of two things... either recrystalised sodium carbonate or very pure DMT. I'd try vaporising a tiny piece of it to see. Theres no mistaking that smell. If its the latter I doubt it would even melt under good amounts of heat.

I really do want this to be some sort of a new ulta pure DMT tek though. That'd be handy
