Nowadays I mainly use backing paper, especially the smooth side inside, for transportation of all kinds of goodies. For longterm storage, beside of converting f.e. freebase into a more stable form like hcl, I recommend glass containers with additionally covered up walls, opaque glass or paper/aluminium foil, in dark and cool places.
