Any thoughts on this technique?

I don't have a GVG or other device and I've been using this method and with good results, but having said that I don't have anything to compare it to.

The technique is the typical bucket of water, plastic bottle with the bottom sawn off, tin foil on top, and burn and lift. I used a mixture of tea leaves and melted DMT on the tin foil.
 
Certainly used to be an effficient ROA when they were used to smoke hash out of them! If it works for you then fair enough but you might want to upgrade from foil and always ensure no hot rocks can jump off and set anything alight.
 
Lol, yes that was my logic, I think many of the “whiteys” i experienced as a teenager were through buckets and hot knives!

Hot knives can’t really be considered for obvious reasons, so having no real pipe I wanted to try to consume it as quickly as possible and the bucket seemed the obvious choice. Having said that, I haven’t broken through yet, (only tried DMT a handful of times).... but, I’ve been fairly moderate with my dose and I will be stepping up the amount this weekend. I dnon't suppose you’ve tried a similar amount in a bucket compared to GVG and the similarity/difference in effects?
 
I would have someone around so you don't spill all the water over your self or on the floor while blasting off to hyperspace. Could send you off to a difficult trip.
 
I find that a gravity bong works exceedingly well for enhanced leaf or changa which is covered by a very thin layer of cannabis. The size of the bowl on mine is jut the right size for a blast off dose of enhanced leaf and always works every single time for me.

IMHO I wouldn't use crystal in a gravity bong as it is more sensitive to heat than enhanced leaf is. The best benefit of a gravity bong is that I am able to efficiently vaporize my entire dose in one solid rip every single time. If you don't want to spend a couple hours converting your spice to enhanced leaf, i'd suggest you use a GVG. If you don't want to spend beaucoup bucks on a GVG, i'd suggest using a gravity bong.

However, one modification I must suggest is that you get a 1/4" socket and use that as your bowl (melt the socket into the bottle cap and make sure the seal around where the socket is inserted is airtight). This makeshift bowl has enough carrying capacity for a breakthrough dose of changa/enhanced leaf and is sure to leave every and any psychonaut pleasantly pleased with the results.

If you have not yet tried using a gravity bonga to smoalk da changa, you are missing out...

Genius suggestion about the 1/4" socket, sounds like it would make a great accessory for the bottle, one question though - what do you put in the socket, do you use a gauze or steel wool or something similar?
 
I don't put anything in the socket. Usually the hole is so little that none of the enhanced leaf falls through if the leaf is of the right size/length. If this is not the case for you, i would suggest covering the hole with a bud (or a wad of gauze if that's your thing). I also found that after plenty of use with other herbs (i.e. cannabis) the bowl becomes resinated and the hole closes up further which in turn reduces any initial need for something to cover it up so changa doesn't fall through. I'd suggest you try to produce a working model and find out how well it works for yourself 😁
 
I dont think that the bucket is an "efficient" technique since for sure some of the spice will be burnt away. Having said that, I must also say that my most beautiful and meaningful breakthrough ever came from the gravity bucket... It was a 50/50 mix of weed and tobacco with around 70mg spice (of course a lot is lost with this tek), all mixed and then with lungs empty I took a lungful of the smoke, immediately proceeded to lay down and held it as much as possible. ... and boom!, off I was to elf land...

I have not been able to repeat such an experience up to now with the machine but it could be a thousand things that played a role for that amazing exp...
 
As someone's sig says, there are many ways up the same mountain...

I really dislike the idea of eating/inhaling from warm plastic, let alone launching with a bucket of water nearby.

So, I took a glass liter liquor bottle, Absolut, one of their arty ones, and drilled a 1/4" hole just above the base, to make a shotty hole.

Pressed a gauze into the neck, to make a basket. Put changa in basket, then set it aside.

Stood at sink.

Put thumb over shotty hole, and filled bottle with water. Replaced changa/gauze and lit changa; lifted thumb from hole, draining water, pulling in vapour.

When full, drop basket in sink and run to couch with bottle filled with exactly the right amount of vapour, and no water anywhere!

My earliest (and strongest!) journeys were with a gravity bong. 2-liter bottle, cut at the waist and inserted in a half gallon plastic pitcher. You can get metal pipe bowls that can be attached to bottle caps and work much better than tin foil or a socket. For DMT, I put a bit of cannabis to plug the hole, then filled up the entire bowl with freebase. There was wastage aplenty, so I dosed very high (100mg+) but it remains the most intense way to fly I have experienced. Later I have had some success with enhanced leaf. If it were kinder to the throat and lungs, I would still prefer it over my ExtremeQ. There is no faster way via lungs to get an entire dose in your system.

It also continues to be my preferred way of smoking cannabis when I am not vaporizing.
 
Dear lord, I just about passed out when I was younger taking a ridiculous hit of weed from a bucket bong. Completely instabent. I'd hate to think how brutal the launch would be taking a lungful of entirely combusted spice from a bucket. Crazy talk.
