Copper is useful for screens because is is a relatively "noble" metal.  It will resist oxidation and corrosion much better than iron.  In order to prevent iron from corroding, it is alloyed with other metals like chrome. 

I'd rather inhale traces of copper than traces of chrome.  Traces of copper are a natural part of some enzymes of the human organism.  Chrome is a carcinogen.
