It used to be that there were screens available that had a coating on them . When they were first used the taste was strong . The coating was said to be poisonous so it was recomended to heat them to red hot before they were used to get any coating off . That worked . It would make sense to always do that just to make sure .

Burning copper off wont help . All that will happen is that copper comes off untill thee is no moe left . It isnt a coating it is it .
