I prepped a 1.858kg log of fresh torch and weighed the separate parts - just thought it would be interesting to compare results across spp.

The weights were

Dark Green outer layer = 622g
Lighter Green inner layer = 880g
Core and Wood = 286g
Skin and Spines = 70g

It must have been about 36cm long and about 12cm thick.

btw my shoes are size 13 (uk size - 14 american size - no idea - size 47 somewhere else i think ?) and the lighter is a standard barrel bic.

that peice wasnt dried but swim has loads more that he does intend to dry - i will post all the results.

another member of my site - Zaorr - posted this usefull information on weights that i thought i would share.

Roughly 126cm long and 8.5cm wide, quite healthy looking patch material.
Cactus material without spines 6.99kg
Wet Green material : 2.350kg
Wet Core material 4.640kg

49cm - 7cm(tip to tip) of Pachanoi:

1336g Total weight
969g White flesh & core
319g Green flesh
48g Outer skin & spines

The strips of green flesh have been airdried at about 35C, which took 2 days.
The weight of the strips dropped from 319g (wet) to 19g (dry). So thats about 6% dry matter.

Trichocereus bridgesii monstrose = Penis plants

greenhouse grown given good organic food and ample water (fully hydrated).

30 small-medium stems of newer growth (no woody stuff) and spines removed.
fresh 575g
dried 35g
=94% water

batch 2 drying now but its also 30 stems.
fresh 677g
dried 45
=94% water

so a total of 1252 grams made 80 grams dry (almost exactly).

so about 6-6.5% of fresh cactus is the real weight of cactus (minus water) for well watered TBM.
