not surprising..there are a number of examples pointing to psilocybe use by celts and germanic peoples.
The celtic and germanic peoples are essentially an offshoot of the vedic culture..even the languages closely resemble sanskrit..all european languages except the the basque langauge fall under the indo european language group that all relate to sanskrit. The Eddas mirror the Vedas in so many ways(I mean, even the names sound similar)..as does the mythology of the celts. It is not entirely understood from what I understand how this came to be(one theory is that the origional proto sanskrit language itself is anatolian, from turkey)..be nonetheless the norse, celtic and mediteranian peoples are pretty much offshoots of the vedic culture.
It is unlikely that the celtic, germanic and other tribes from the mediteranian did not seek out some form of soma native to europe..you find this in greece with the kykeon and the Elusinian Mystery school..
The Gundestrup Culdron was a pretty big discovery found in a bog of Denmark, thought to be of Celtic origion(which is funny becasue Denmark is not concidered to have been Celtic) and definatly seems to depict some sort of shaman in a trace, surrounded by animals and what has been proposed to be psilocybe semilanceata..
