SWIM was recalling the bit about home-centrifuging on the fumarate thread, and got to thinking. How about using a centrifuge juicer?

The inside of one could possibly be outfitted with various attachments that would hold test-tubes--or what have you--in place. SWIM happens to have one lying around and will look into this sort of implementation when he gets the chance (no time soon).

This would work if appropriate adjustments are made. A good centrifugal speed for this size of equipment would be 5000-13000rpm. Common washing machines for instance cannot reach this speed.

One needs to be VERY careful however, if the construction is not solid and any adjustments made to it are wobbly, one 's risking his/her life. Personally I would recommend steering away from centrifuges unless one knows exactly what he's doing.

yeah centrifuges can be REALLY dangerous! get a real one or leave it.. no macgyver styles please! i once saw pictures of a home lab blasted to pieces by a self made centrifuge. i wouldn't wanna imagine what the person would look like if he would have been in that room at the time of the blast.

its a good 3 years ago.. don't know where i saw 'em.. i think it was in some similar thread on another forum. don't ask me what forums i've been using 3 years ago.. i don't know.. i'm way to flaky for that

Here's some such pictures. Look at all the damage it caused:

Even new models sometimes explode.

If you use one, make sure it works properly and is loaded properly. If it's off balance, it could blow up sending pieces all over your lab and possibly killing someone.
