changa prep review

okey dokey, my platypus is thinking of making some changa, and wants to review the process intended, so start with ingredients, spice, (maybe 1g) herbs, (mixture of aya bark, blue lotus, mullien) 70% iso alc, epsom salts

ok bake epsom salts in oven for about 30 mins to convert into other thing that playtipus doesnt rememeber, this substance should bind to water in iso alc, so pour cooked epsoms into iso alc to make anhydrous (without water) iso alc, separate alc from ather gunk, disolve spice in small amount to this (maybe a spoonful) after fully mixed together, mix with 1 g mixed herbs set out in glass tray until bone dry and without alcohol smell...done? is there anything my platypus is missing?

For starters, you don't need to use anhydrous alcohol. Some people claim that harmalas dissolve better in alcohol that has a little H2O in it.

Next, I don't recommend using strait caapi vine in your mix. The preferred method would be to make a menstrum.

I'm sure you've seen how salvia is available in 10x, 20x, 50x etc concentrations... How they get that number is they take, for instance, 10 grams of salvia and soak it in alcohol for a month and strain it. This alcohol is your menstrum. You then evaporate it onto 1g of fresh, dried salvia leaf and now you have 10x salvia. So basically it's a ratio of 10:1.

For a 20x blend, you'd soak 20g of salvia and evap it onto 1g of fresh dried leaf.

So this is basically what you want to do with your caapi.

You'll soak 100g of caapi for a month, shaking lovingly everyday. Then you'll strain that caapi and evap it onto 10g of the herb(s) of your choice. Most people prefer caapi leaves, but it's not required.

Once that is fully evapped, you now have a 10x caapi blend.

Next you'll take 1g of spice and dissolve it in alcohol and then add 1g of your 10x caapi blend.

Once that is fully evapped, you're good to go.

Sometimes you'll have to spread this final product out in a baking pan for a day or so to fully evaporate all of the solvent.

Another option you have instead of making a menstrum, is to extract the harmalas from caapi or syrian rue and add them to your herbs at a known ratio. Most people prefer 300mg harmalas:1g spice:1g herbs. I prefer 500mg harmalas:1g spice:1g herbs.

If you don't have concentrated harmalas in your mix, you've basically got enhanced leaf, not changa.

what i would do is : mix 1g of spice with 1g of mixture of your plants and than add acetone just anough to cover all of it. then mix it well and after that just leave to evaporate. and thats it you can smoke the very same day my friend ;)

is there a significant difference of extraction quality from isopropyl alc to acetone? platypus much prefer to use iso...

If I recall correctly, tests show that methyl alcohol works best for soaking up harmalas with IPA coming in second. It seems that it was pretty difficult to get harmalas to fully dissolve in acetone. Someone else might be able to confirm this.

now part 2 if one has VERY jungly spice (platypus said its probably dmt acetate as aposed to dmt freebase?) that was basicly made using water and vineagar then evaped down to a solid could platypus turn it into effective changa or would it be best to use "crystalline" spice

I believe either House or Jorkest made changa with dmt acetates and they said it was some of the best changa they've worked with. It should work just fine besides maybe a bit of a vinegar smell.

That would get you an 11x (so-called) extract. Consider the case of extracting 1g of material and evaporating it onto another 1g--would you have a 1x or 2x product. Of course once you get over 20x the difference could be considered insignificant.

94% ethyl alcohol should work (re: caapi or Rue), ya?

95% ethyl would be great, unfortunatly where i live that is exponentially more difficult to aquire than iso, so if its no big difference platypus' gonna go with the i.p.a.
originally was thinking of caapi as the choice since its just better and has more smokable plant matter, but if one was doing an extractive process anyways, might aswell do the rue since it cheaper and stronger? then just put the menstrum on some flowers or something

ps i just realized there is 70% iso and 90% iso, is it still all kosher if i have 70%
I've seen 70% isopropyl "rubbing alcohol" c/w other stuff in it... I'd go with the 90% just to be safe.

Around here some pharmacies keep 99% behind the counter, I'm not sure of a good reason for needing it though. Last time I purchased some (many years ago) I told the Pharmacist that I was making a tincture and wanted to do the initial extraction with pure iso because mostly pure grain ethyl was so expensive. Nowadays, mentioning "extraction" may not be such a good idea.
