Hey good people,
I have decided that it is time for me to up my knowledge of chemistry. I would like to know if you can advise of some books I can order to help me advance my knowledge of theory and lab practises? I would do an online course but I have a great job already and do not need a degree or education. This is for personal interest and knowledge only.
Any advise would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

good links benzyme, i also have been interested in upping my chemistry knowledge (although i DO intend on taking some courses at a local college)

i think maybe if some of the knowledgeable chemists on here could come up with some lessons in chemistry for the site here it would greatly benefit many people on the forums. such as when posting teks maybe include WHY those of us with less knowledge are doing what we're doing!

for example:
"add 1G lye to 1G bark, the purpose of this ratio is to ______________"

i understand that lye (NaOH) is a base substance and have thought the purpose is to basify the substance we are working with, but why are we doing that?

We also got a Basic Chemistry thread where some concepts are explained.

People are more than welcome to read through, ask questions as well as (most important) ASK for new topics to be explained. This is better in my opinion because it is more interactive and people can ask back for questions and clarifications (difficult to do with a textbook!)

Might check out Vogel's Textbook of Practical Organic Chemistry (5th Edition).. You could buy it, or check rapidshare.com for a PDF version.

Cheers guys. I will check out all the links and buy Vogels. Online is good but I want a hard copy that I can leave by my bed and read.

Cheers guys. I cant get torrents while at work but I get off in a week and will check it out. I will also look on this site further.
Thanks for all the links.
