Cleaning spice

I know this subject has been covered a lot, but swim just did his first re-crystallization today to try to get a less nasty chem reaction from spice he's made previously.
He's trying to do things smarter, cleaner, and even ordered a milligram scale to get more accurate dosing ( should have done that long ago he now knows.) Its taking a while, but he's still learning and he has a few questions...

1) Does re-crystylization ( re- dissolve and re-freeze-precip) rid the spice more of any excess lye?

2) Can this be done on jungle spice that was extracted using xylene to improve the quality? If so, how does swim do it with the jungle spice he has?

In recrystalization, appart from reissolving and recrystalizing, you have to remember that its important to use a minimum amount of solvent possible.. so you use around 30ml warm naphtha/heptane/hexane per 1g of impure product..

Any lye should go to the bottom together with the goo that you get rid of in recrystalization

and if you do recrystalization in jungle spice, you will get pure dmt afterwards, but all the other (also active) alkaloids will stay behind together with the impurities...

He did use only a small amount of solvent and the oils and crap just sat in the bottom of the mixing glass. He could tell that this went well. He'll try this tomorrow on some jungle too then. He's not sure he likes jungle anyway and he knows he hates inhaling the chemical impurities more than anything. He thinks it will be interesting to see how much regular spice comes out of the jungle spice.

I'm not so sure about that. Today Swim re-crystalized some jungle and got what seems to be some standard spice, but also got some of what seems to be gooey spice still quite like jungle. He sure did get rid of a lot of impurities though, and he wishes to try the new powder soon.

I was curious about this process as well, turns out a monkey uncle tried a STB extract on one pound of mhrb, came out with 10.5 grams, at least thats what I enterpreted from his primative language signals, but when he did recystalization 3 times he ended up with only 1.7 grams very pure white powder...the yellow goo that was active though kinda harsh to smoke, quite oily and took a while to dry ...could it be that the mhrb the monkeys uncle had was mostly dmt-n oxide?? isn't there a tech for converting this oxide back to nn????

the monkeys uncle is kind pised so I'd like to get an answer/som help on this subject before he starts making a mess of the place!

why do you say 'quite like jungle'? you mean in the looks or did you bioassay and it felt different than pure dmt?

I ask because maybe from one recrystalization the heptane/naphtha picked up a little bit of plant oils together with dmt, so it still might have some yellow/goeey something, but this is not an alkaloid, imo. Dmt n-oxide is also yellow and gooey and its a part of jungle spice but it wouldnt be picked up by the naphtha/heptane in the recrystalization, and it wouldnt form in the freezer, only possibly if you evapped the solvent instead of freezing it after re-xtalization... Otherwise its probably some plant oils and you can get rid of it and get white white stuff by recrystalizing again

forgot to mention that the original 10.5 grams were the yellowest crystals yet, and that the freeze precip. actually had 2 layers..a very yellow layer and a very white layer...he used a hot water bath and kept the STB hot at all times..perhaps next time he would be better off keeping it room temperature or just warm???

You're probably right. He just chopped it all up to fine powder and ended up with yellow spice, so it seems some of the "stuff" is still in it and it would probably come all white with another wash. He's going to leave it as is though and give it a go. He's wondering if he is going to get a slightly jungle experience from this.

Oh, and I said "quite like jungle" as some of the stuff was that almost clay consistancy and same color that I see when I evap with xylene.

My swim noticed that as well, like 2 layers on the freeze precip.
I would like to think that the second fp got rid of any excess lye and left some of the jungle alkaloids, but I'm sometimes an eternal optimist with a shaky base footing in reality!
