Cold Snap - The Saddest Cactus Harvest

Migrated topic.

I was traveling with my plants and the car got colder one night than expected so I woke up to my entire cactus collection frozen to death. Even the bases in these photos or the pups and torches that look the right shape, when you touch them they are mush and pop if you press too hard.

I cut them down today and am separating the watery contents that spill out from the skins I want to dry.

I am very very sad. I'd had many of these cacti for a long time and spent a lot of hours sitting with them.

Thats rough man, I would probobly cry if all my cactus died. A friend of mine just moved back east and lost all (about a dozen) of his Peyote seedlings during transport. I am going to be moving all my cacti this summer, I really hope they all survive the trip.
Good luck with your harvest, and getting your garden reestablished!

Long live Cacti!

sad!

been there

save all the liquid that comes out as well as the skins!
"winter harvest" can be good ime

Awwww elru, this is so sad. I hope you at least get a decent journey out of it.
I know too well the pain of losing a treasured cactus.
I hope you get some more specimens very soon.

Lots of good vibes for you!
