Did I oxidize dmt on the heater?

Hhhmmm... After using Cyb's salt tek getting the spice out of the freezer. After removing the nafta I was impatient and wanted to weigh the amount of spice quick. So I decided that maybe putting the dish on a warm/hot radiator would be helpful. 20 minuted later I saw the spice being melted and became more brown. So I immediately took it off. Then I read on the nexus forum of the change of oxidization of the spice.

Now I have a couple of questions about this:

1. Can it be that the fluffy crystals turned into goo because of oxidization process as an effect of putting it on the heater.
2. Can you separate oxidized dmt from the 'normal' dmt?

Ok I found the answer:

DMT N-oxide tends to form from DMT when exposed to air drying by a fan, especially in elevated heat. This will make your DMT yellowish and oily. If enough DMT N-oxide is present, you won’t be able to crystallize your DMT unless you freeze precipitate it in naphtha. Dissolving a mix of dry DMT and oily DMT N-oxide in a small amount of warm naphtha will cause the DMT N-oxide to sink to the bottom of the naphtha as yellow or brownish sticky goo. Mix the goo around in the naphtha to free the DMT from it. The DMT will dissolve in the naphtha and can be poured off with the naphtha, leaving behind the DMT N-oxide. Then the DMT can be placed in the freezer to crystallize in the naphtha. Don’t discard the DMT N-oxide goo! You can convert it back into DMT later once you get some zinc dust.

Yes, you're probably right about oxidizing some of the DMT, and that procedure should work for salvaging any DMT that wasn't oxidized remaining in the goo. You also probably burned a fair amount of it, and unfortunately ya can't un-burn DMT... Patience, patience, patience... It will pay off in the end.

Before assuming its n oxide, or at least that most of it turned into n oxide, you should try recovering your dmt from it. Recrystallize by using warm naphtha and freeze again (FAQ has more detailed instructions). Maybe you get all or at least some of your DMT back. If that doesnt work or if you still have a significant amount you couldnt recover, then try the zinc story .

I recrystalized the spice in hot nafta. The stuff on the bottom of the glass looked different then normal. There is also some stuff that looks more white-greyish.

After 16hrs of freezing. It looked different then normal. There were a lot of little pieces floating in the nafta. Which made it difficult to decant the nafta. And it almost seemed there was some sort of jelly. When I poured the nafta off it was quite a job the filters got stuck easily had to replace it a couple of times. The color of the spice is yellow-orange.

Ok but how much product you have now, in weight, compared to before?

Also, you can try recrystallizing again to get rid of color.

I don't really understand what the problem was. Endlessness please correct me if I am wrong here.

To me all it sounds is that you melted your dmt. You used the words saw my dmt melting, so it doesn't sound like it say on damaging high heat. Dmt melts pretty easily and when it dries re crystallizes in a different way but its still dmt.

Am I wrong? I don't see why he had to do anything other than cool the melted dmt to solidify and put it in a jar and use as normal.

When I used to use the meth type style bulb pipe for dmt I would re use the cooled re crystallized dmt all the time that was left in the bulb. I never noticed any difference in potency or effects and that was melting the dmt to a temp that it vaporized and then cooled.

I really don't think oxidization is as big of a problem as so many people claim it to be or feel it is. Maybe from a chemistry molecular angle there is a big difference but for practical affairs dmt is tougher than people give it credit for.
I'm seeing lots of threads about dmt being stored for a month in the dark and people overly concerned about potency loss.

I agree there is no difference, in my opinion. I've left DMT + ASH in a bowl (regular glass pot bowl) for well over 6 months and it was just as potent as before.
