Differnt naptha in UK?????????

Migrated topic.

Last night ILPT contacted me trough me dream in very IMPORTANT matter. ILPT use to work hard in laboratory enviroment with 99,99 % pure solvents and he more then well, remembered smell of each commonly used. ILPT compared NEWPORT LIGHTER FLUID NLF , lighter fuel Swan, and Coleman Fuel CF. He didn`t recognise smell of NLP it could be more like some aliphathics blend(like real naphta). He fund huge difference btw. Swan (what significantly smell of TOLULEN )and CF (what mostly smell of HEPTHAN).

1, Last time he performed very quick AB on 10 g of MHBR and used only SWAN. Yield was ridiculously low but certainly sent 2 people to psychedelic paradise for short term (it coluld be the jungle spice or just bit of it since SWAN is not pure tolulen )

2, Now he dumped AB an progressing STB on 50g MHBR, cos he HAVEN`T GOT LITMUS PAPERS (or universal indicator papers) and withouth them is doing AB pointless. He was looking everywhere in UK: BOOTS, Independent chemist ,PET SHOP with no success. PLEASE HELP HIM FIND THEM!!!!!!
ILPT aiming perform 4 CF pulls and 2 SWAN pulls within one sunny day and then next day he`ll play with purification. He`ll be back with report.

3,ILPT WOULD GET MORE BARK in future and will try perform same tech on same bark with both fuels to see the difference in yield or quality.

P.S. ILPT also noticed that the CL evaporating quicker......

apparently newport is best.

ILPT don`t think so cos Ron 69`s or somebody`s else SWIM said DMT is best soluble in hot hepthan so ILPT stick to Coleman is just £4.99 for 500ml in BLACKS. somebody mentioned they selling some stove fuel in BLACKS but ILPT didn`t find it, he just found CF.

Despite the smell of heptane the major alken in CF is hexane as stated here:

I. Chemical Name
A. COLEMAN FUEL
Specifications: Coleman Fuel is a complex mixture of light hydrocarbons (primarily aliphatic)
produced by distillation of petroleum. Carbon number range is C5 to C9. Coleman Fuel is fully
hydrotreated to remove aromatics, and contains less than 0.001% benzene. The boiling point
range is 100-350° F (Goldsmith, 2002). Coleman Fuel contains up to 25% n-hexane and up to
15% cyclohexane by weight (Calumet, 1998).
B. Synonyms
Petroleum ether, petroleum naphtha, light hydrotreated petroleum distillate, white gas, Amsol 10,
Kensol 10, VM&P (varnish makers & painters) naphtha, petroleum benzin

Well i dont know about the differences or how to extract anything but I know for sure my friends cousin yeilded 800mg from 100g of purple-pink with SWAN..Looks great too, pale golden/yellow mmmm :)

This will probably be regarded as dodgy by some but I didn't know better at the time, but my first successful harvest was a freeze precipitation with paraffin (have a look in the B&Q gardening section, its in there - or don't!). It said Naptha on the label so I thought it would work, and it does. You get 5 litres for a shade over a fiver, didn't realise you could reuse the solvent when freeze precipitating either.

I would hate to use it for an evaporation, it takes approximately 100 million years to evaporate, but it's yielded pretty clean looking crystals so far (that have been *astonishingly* effective!)

Cheers WHOAMANTHATWASINTENSE !!!

AS ILPT spotted on list of products from serious chemical supplier, they recognising 3 kind of naphtha, light ,medium and hevy fraction Whilst lighter fuel or CF is surely the light fraction. BBQ could be either medium or heavy but cos it evaporating for ages its most likely the heavy fraction.

BUT WHAT NAPHTA ILPT FOUND????? As ILPT have been screwing around in ``North Finchley Tally Ho corner `` he found fine shop with artist supplies, but he doesn`t remember name of the shop. They have solvent 1
liter for a fiver (twice as much as CF for the same prize)is used for diluting the colours. On the etiquet is stated QUICK EVAPORATING, LEAVING NO RESIDUES AFTER EVAPORATING !!!!! That`s sounds like extra refined medium naphta fraction to him. WHUUOO we got something absolutely suitable for freeze prec. In the same shop also have shitloads of different shaped knives, very handy for scraping out your crystals!!!!!!!

There are quite a few versions of Naphtha available in the UK from Windsor & Newtons thinners to Tetrion white spirit and even Panel Wipe for degreasing cars. The problem is getting it cheap enough (from £'s for lighter fluid to about a tenner for 5l of panel wipe). Next on SWIMS agenda is to try and get some DCM, Toluene or Xylene.

Any1 know where to get these???

Ehm. this is kind of related and the person in question holds much shame on the matter, but someone got some Coleman fluid to do their second lot of bark... and they can't open it is what I'm saying here.

Are they stupid or what? Is there some trick to get the brick wall out of the spout? Someone feels like a can of coleman fuel is laughing behind their back and all!

That's a really piss poor first post.

My foaf evaporated his Colemans and it left loads of nasty bright blue oily shit. Beware. Soulfood, to open it jam an old fashioned can opener into the middle of the hole where the fuel is meant to come out. It pours better if you lever out the metal plug once you've put a hole in it. You could also lever it from the joint maybe but foaf didn't try that.

Foaf used Bartoline white spirit from B&Q. It worked fine. Swan is sold at Sainsbury's and worked fine too, but evaporates so quickly that you lose a lot. The nice thing about white spirit is that you can leave it to float on your potion overnight and it'll still be there in the morning. So you can just freeze precip again and again and again until nothing more's coming out. Foaf is still pulling after weeks, and the good stuff keeps on coming! Swan didn't pull any more than Bartoline.

Ah thanks! A little persistence required then? Cool.

The Idea at the moment is keeping certain controls i.e. same raw product, temperature ph and what have you and changing the solvent round. Swan has been used already, quite clean but also seems quite light. Good and bad things about colemans, but it's good to see what you can make of it yourself. Maybe extracting with colemans and cleaning/recrystalizing in swan? There's a few other known names that may be interesting to try aswell. Just as the solvent's used more than other chemicals it would seem to be a good idea to get your own preference on that before you start fiddling with anything else.

Still young and all that :)
