DMT as a potential plant growth hormone

modern

Guide
So the structure of DMT is very similar to IAA which may even work as a rooting hormone in a liquid solution but I've not yet tested this idea.

What I have tested with controls is using 1mg/ml DMT freebase in vinegar as a foliar application on lophophora seedlings. The more controlled experiment had 4 applications and another at 21 applications of daily doses. The 4 applications had the same results with less negative effects however still comparable. In the future when I repot I'm interested to see how the root systems appear since they were all trimmed and treated equally besides the applications.

This effect is similar to BAP-6 when applied to lophphora. I've yet to test on other cacti like trichocereus but considering the very minimal amount of DMT needed for these effects I'll probably get around to testing it at some point.

There are some timelapses of the experiment found in this video. Still ongoing and I didn't uproot them yet.

The photo shows the treated lophophora with pups... the X are dividers from a different experiment. The control lophophora had ZERO pups and have grown as normal.

Wonder if there are some parallels. I haven't gotten to read all of either unfortunately.

One love

DMT is actually different from IAA and other auxins because they all have a carboxyl group (-COOH) that DMT doesn't have. But aside from the structure who knows which pathways could DMT be potentially involved in so your experiment is very interesting! several indolamines are involved in plant signalling pathways.
Have you considered trying on other faster growing species? you could do some germination tests on paper or other substrates on which the roots are visible, or check germination percentage and timing etc.

Seems like we metabolize DMT into IAA. The difference in the structure is very slight but obviously it makes a big difference. I believe all alkaloids are plant growth regulators but can't really prove this so I made this experiment to test this.

There are too many things to test alone I may test germination on lopho seedlings.

i didn't make that connection 😮
i don't think plants have MAOs specifically but they have amine oxidases in general so conversion in plants is a possibility

yes or even germination or seedling development on other plants that grow faster (even on cuttings)

I'll watch your YT 😊

With the amount of different processes and enzymes even if partially attached/similar to a correlating process I'm sure it would make a side reaction.

Something I've wanted to test and may be able to this coming year is testing to if novel compounds are made when applied to unrelated plants... however if no reaction via a stain I have available will be impossible to test. Like if adding dmt to cacti does it simply covert to compounds like iaa or other or will it possibly lead to side reactions with new compounds or variations.

Many of my ideas lead no where or are wrong but I like to share and test since always learn different things and many ideas have been in the community for years without any attempts or without sharing the results.
