DMT & Musical expression

Migrated topic.

Does anyone else get the urge to pick up an instrument during the DMT trip?

Until now, I wouldn't have thought it would be the kind of drug that would lend itself to musical expression, due its short action and potentially dissociative effects.

SWIM's not a great musician or anything, If I were to play you back the sound he was making, we'd all probably cringe:? . However, during his last few experiences he had a strong urge to mess around on his synthesiser, he finds playing music increases the euphoric effects. SWIM feels tonal, minimalist sounds work best. So far SWIM is yet to breakthrough on DMT, at best his trips are psychedelic with a powerful introspective/analytical component, however when playing music the introspective state gives way to an incredible ecstatic feeling, more awesome than his relatively well traveled mind has previously experienced. His only regret is that it is so fleeting.

mmmmmmmmmmmm...........

*claps*

*stomps*

*rolls fingers over harps strings*

*oooooooooooOOOOoOoOo ooooooooOOooo*

*slap funk pluck guitar strings*

*zap zap zap zap swooooooooooooooosh trickle DRIPdrip the synth (womph)*

*bangs the drum upon reentry! aHO!*

while tripping on aya (or analog) chanting the "ohm"
(no intonation while breathing in...chanting the "ohm" while breathing out, holding one tone, or you may switch regular from "e" to "c"...for example)
and drumming the tact
(just like this: bum.bum.bum.bum...regular)
works excellent to focus your mind!

you may think it is some sort of boring and hard work to chant and drum continuously for 2 or 3 hours...
but if you try once you will see:
it's rewarding!
helps grounding the experience!

Not boring at all gosvami, in fact it's probably not far from what my freind is doing, repetitive, simple sounds are the most effective. SWIM says he is going to have to try aya one day, I just can't get my head round the volume of brew required to achieve effects. When he does, I'm sure he'll have his drum about!

۩, yes exactly! Make's me think, it would be interesting to get a bunch of in-tune, talented swim's taking DMT at the same time, would be hard to orchestrate though.

I play the viola, but it is a bit much in/immediately after a trip. I've tried. I prefer my kalimba now. I'm really glad you brought this up because I am compelled to play after initial hyperspace wears off. I've never recorded it, but the music is beautiful. It may not be on a recording ;-)
I can do this wah-wah thing with my kalimba that puts me on many a planet. Little bell like tines, you can imagine.

Have you tried automatic writing in a state? The mind is a community and taking some time for a group session can be very rewarding.

Also, does anyone get the desire to fuck after DMT? I do.

I love the kalimba, such a neat little instrument. I imagine it would be ideal.

I can see the benefit of free writing during the experience, the trip provides such a flow of ideas, and personal observations. Thanks for the suggestion.

Oddly, sex hasn't occurred to me, must be getting old.

Spice definitely inspires me more with my musical expression, especially with drumming. I always get itchy hands so to speak after a journey with spice to have a really good jam on a djembe drum (Which are my favourite drums).

Its extremely purifying for my mind as well as my body, very energy cleansing indeed. Spice inspires me greatly with my creativity not only with music but with writing, my photography as well as with my painting. Lovely thread, thank you Wertpog.

Not smoked dmt but... Remember how with traditional ayahuasca use, sounds have a fundamental importance! The icarus and repetitive sounds of different instruments like rattles made with leaves and so on, are all considered in indigenous knowledge as essential in the navigation of the dimensions these substances take us to. The patterns in their music not only reflects but also influences 'hyperspace' and how one is perceiving it.

With smoked dmt, after a certain dosage, SWIM cant do anything appart from lay down and close his eyes, so any idea of making music is off for him. Maybe smaller doses.

In any case, psychedelics in general deepened SWIM's appreciation for music, and he has been learning the acoustic guitar for maybe 8 months now, which feels great. Maybe one day he will play good enough to be able to express a little bit of his experiences with hyperspace, or make part in the 'dmt orchestra' suggested above haha

When using a DMT flash I just hum a single tone quietly to myself. It makes the experience explode... in a very nice way.

I love playing my didjeridoo on most psychedelics, but DMT/Aya put's me on my back soooo...

yea, vibration/oscillation of the didjeridoo seems to me staying in direct connectivity to the hyperspace and the beings in this space. seems to me that it is possible to communicate (!) with them then we create this special vibrations with music instruments or our voice/larynx. at least then the dose of dmt/aya is not too high...😉 if the dose is too high the communication is single sided (THEY speak...you listen to them, overwhelmed by surprise.....) but believe me 😉 :
THEY are "overwhelmed by surprise" as well then you begin to speak to THEM...and at this point real communication can start....

Smokey, what a beautiful image of a singing bowl i love them. They make one of the most pure resonating sounds that i have ever heard. I am definitely going to be buying one very soon, my tingshas also make a lovely resonating vibration but it is a bit different to the singing bowl which has a far more rich and deep resonating sound.

Much Peace

I've got a standard sort of small sized one but am thinking of looking into some of the bigger ones as they create a different texture.. really like them though, a very resonating experience :D

Thats really fascinating!! I look forward to being able to communicate in this way... I have done some drumming at the beginning of an aya sesh but when it comes on strong you just have to lie back and accept !!
My guru friend told me that its good sometimes to keep pushing on, keep playing... then things get really interesting.

yes balaganist.
at my last journey the following happened:

i chanted the ohm...then the aliens threatened me.
they told me (telepatically, so to speak...):
"stop singing!
look at us!
look at us!"
i said:
"i will not stop!"
and they said:
"who do you think you are?
look at us, we have the power to destroy you, if we want.
so stop chanting, you little worm...."
and i said:
"i will not stop.
even if you will kill me...."
and they bowed ther heads and said:
"ok. you are welcome."
and we created love together by chanting everything into existence....

so don't you let THEM take control over you!
you can control yourself!

lol... nah SWIM never felt like playing an instrument or producing electronic music after DMT but music has to play during the trip... SWIM knows what happens when it stops :p damn... and his choice is shpongle... its best kind of music for him on dmt.. not so slow or sad , not so fast... Shpongle plays from every kinda shit and keeps giving quotes from Mckenna SWIM loves it :D ahahah

Some great responses here! I love the thought of playing the didj, but swim barely has the lungs for in under normal circumstances, after a hit of DMT, forget it!

SWIM has been experimenting with dosage and smoking methods quite a bit and finally figured out what he needs to do to breakthrough. Wow, but thats another story.

Anyroad, as usual he is sitting next to his synthesiser when smoking the spice, before taking the hit, he programs his synth to produce a evolving, semi-random drone, this takes any the need to interact with the instrument, but allows SWIM to impose his creative side on the trip, he feels this produces a more personal experience.
