New DMT-Nexus Wiki

Since Monday the 9th of February 2009, the DMT-Nexus Wiki has been renewed and now uses the software from MediaWiki, the same software that Wikipedia uses. The main advantage of the MediaWiki software is that we can now use the same markup as Wikipedia and exchange articles from that place.

What is the DMT-Nexus Wiki?

The DMT-Nexus Wiki is a DMT-Nexus wide collaboration to produce a DMT Handbook. This collaboration is open-ended, all-inclusive and open to revisions. The focus of this particular handbook should be DMT with some reference to its allies.

Help from the community needed

Several articles are already created by amor_fati and me but to write down all the combined knowledge of the DMT-Nexus we are a little short of hands. We need a lot-a-people to join us in this task. So even if your editing skill are non-existent, participate in this project to share your knowledge. Don't worry about layout, if you can type a piece of text then you are already helping us!

Joining

You can join the DMT-Nexus wiki by following this link.

Where to begin?

After you have signed up, you can immediatly start creating and editing articles.
This page is an excellent start. Check the ToDo list on that page to see where you can start helping us.

Some help with the markup of the MediaWiki software

If you want some extra explanation about the markup and how to edit a page then visit this page.

Your help is really appreciated, together we can let our combined knowledge last!

Kind regards,

I've just added /marked up the text for Lazyman and Lextek.

There are quite a few inconsistencies across various teks.

I saw the note on keeping the content of the articles the same as the original write-ups, but I wonder if the varying use of names and units may be confusing. Are we free to make edits to improve consistency?

Has there been any thought about a style guide for the wiki? Can we just use the style rules from Wikipedia?

I would say to keep the teks the same apart from general proofreading (spell-checking mainly) if you feel so inclined. The teks should only be altered by their authors. If a new edition is released of any of the teks, the wiki can be updated in accordance.

The idea is to hopefully reconcile any inconsistencies and confusion within or between teks through developing and revising the "Nexian DMT Handbook."

Hmm, not sure about a style-guide, but building templates would certainly be a step in the right direction.

Again, thanks for your help, and welcome aboard!

Hmm -

Can you look at the Lazyman tek and check I haven't done anything too crazy? I've edited units so they are consistently using abbreviations as well as chemical names, symbols and corrected ranges to use en dashes. I'll happily revert any unsuitable edits.

By style guide I mean use of English, terminology, units, naming conventions, etc. - rather than just the look and layout of the pages.

Wikipedia's style guide:

Wikipedia:Manual of Style - Wikipedia

For instance, as most of the world uses Celsius rather than Fahrenheit shouldn't these be referred to - for instance 38º C (100º F)? The same goes for weights and measures.

Would this detract from the original documents? Creating conventions would certainly help international users.
