Do all sub-ohm tanks leak PG?

Unfortunately I've lost a good amount of DMT e-juice because my tank has been leaking. The mix is 2/3 PG and 1/3 VG, and it seems that it's too runny for this tank. I have very little experience with these devices: is this something to be expected with all sub-ohm tanks? If not, is there some keyword to look for when buying a new tank?

Which model tank are you using?
Quality tanks will not leak, so I'm guessing you maybe have a damaged seal, or just a cheap tank?

I'm using the one that came with the Vaporesso PX80 mod (it has its own connector but I also have a 510 adapter), so no idea if it's supposed to be good or not. It has the opening to fill it on the bottom, and that's where it leaks. It's not immediately apparent, but after some days it adds up to a lot. Do you think just buying a good quality one will avoid it, then?

Hmmm, I'm surprised by that, as I use and recommend Vaporesso, as I think they're very good quality.
I don't know that tank specifically, so am not sure how it fits together. I would guess it is maybe a gasket/seal issue. How old is the tank?
I have an old Swag2 model with the NRG tank. This is fully re-buildable, and you can have issues if seals are old/damaged, or you've not screwed it together tightly enough.

The tank is actually new, I bought a pack of two, and the resistors are new as well. I made sure to follow the instructions correctly etc. It has a lock system that can't really be more or less tight, it's either locked or unlocked. I'm going to try using the other tank from the same pack and see if the same happens. Maybe the one I'm using is faulty. Or maybe this specific design isn't that good for whatever reason. If the same happens with the second one, I'll buy a good 510 tank.

Do they usually have the opening to inject the liquid at the bottom? In this model it's at the bottom and it's closed by a small silicone plug.

Mine fills from the top, which makes more sense to me, but you'd have thought modern gear would be designed to cope with this. Maybe it is due to the low viscosity of the PG leaking round the silicone plug. Sub-ohm juices are much higher in VG, so maybe it is just that.
If you can use a 'normal' 510 tank, maybe that will solve the problem. Sounds like a top fill tank should be fine.
Let us know how you get on.

I've had no problems with my vaporesso veco 2ml tank and PEG400. It has been left half full for months and no leakage.
It's top filling and has air intakes at the top too which are claimed to help stop leakage.

Well designed tank/clearomiser shouldn't leak, regardless the pg/vg ratio. I'm currently using the Geekvape Z-Max tank with 70% PG d-juice without any leak. I even used it with 100% PG d-juices, all flawlessly without leaks. I also used the Vaporesso Veco tank for years without problems from 30 to 100% PG. I think there is a sealing gasket problem with your device. Anyway, I think the PX80 is not the most suitable box/tank for this use. Get another box mod and a tank/clearomiser with top filling, and also top airflow, so that if it leaks, it will fall into the bottom cap and you can retrieve most of the juice easily. Bottom airflow leaking will leak outside the tank and will be lost. I'd also recommend to avoid too large capacity tanks (>4ml), they are not very convenient when you only have small juice amounts. Also, be aware there is a lot of counterfeit devices in the vape world, try to get it from trusted stores.

Well, I just need another tank, no? Maybe the mod isn't the best but it's good enough for me, and with the 510 adapter I can choose any standard tank. Noted the recommendation about top filling and top airflow, that seems to be the consensus.

Yes, I agree. My current one is 4ml and that's already big for the amount of juice I have.

Good to know. This one is legit because it has a code that you can check in the vaporesso website, I did it when I got it some years ago. So I'll buy from the same store probably.

Yes, as long as you can plug a 510 clearomiser (it's not always the case on pods). Just be aware that large diameter clearomiser might not fit with this box due to its specific battery cap design. Check maximum tank diameter you can use with this box. If you're looking for a <4ml efficient sub-ohm tank with top filling and top airflow maybe have a look at the Geekvape Z Nano 2 (provided with 2ml and 3,5ml glass - should fit your box) or Geekvape Z-Max (provided with 2ml and 4ml glass - more powerful but very large, not sure it will fit your box).

It's not the case in the PX80, but it has an adapter for 510 and I have it, so fortunately that's not a problem.

Thanks for the heads-up, I wouldn't have considered this.

The Z nano 2 looks good for me, as I don't need it to be particularly powerful. I'll still measure it to make sure it fits. Thank you for the recommendation, I can easily get any of those, and they look much better. I see the 510 connector has a screw: the PX80 default one doesn't, it's magnetic. So maybe that also contributes to it being leaky with PG.

Now I have a better idea of what to look for if I buy another one in the future. This one I bought it originally to vape CDB juice (and barely used it because I didn't really like vaping it in the end).

I just got the Geekvape Z nano 2. What a difference in quality in every way! Thank you very much for recommending it, @The Sofa Traveler . The vapor is much more smooth and I don't get small juice droplets from it. And it doesn't look like it will leak.
When you have a pod with juice inside, how do you store it? Just standing up so it doesn't leak? Or it doesn't matter?

Also, a bit offtopic, but is there any harm in vaping freebase? As I understand from what I've read, vaping salts have better absorption and flavor, but it doesn't seem to be about safety. Is this correct?

Nice if it works as intended :) I always store my vape vertically to keep the wick soaked. I also made a cardboard cylinder to wrap the tank and protect from light (see pic).20250828_202019.jpg

I don't know about freebase harm potential specifically but I think salts are more harmful if vaped at inadequate temperature (too hot/burnt).
