The onset for vaporized or smoked DMT is always very rapid and many people purposely take a "one hit quit" approach, including myself.  That being said, it is difficult, if not impossible, for us to know what sort of dosage you ingested.  I think next time it would be wise to ask your friend how much he/she put in the pipe.
