Hiya lads,
Just watched Dr. Phil on the JRE, and it was a very enjoyable episode. They discussed some interesting topics, such as:
• The overmedication issue
• Mental illness stigma
• Raising awareness about treatment practices and effects of medication
• Pills vs. Therapy
• Opioid epidemic
• Deception detection and interrogation techniques
• Psychological aspect of athletics
• The concept of self-attribution of characteristics and traits, and the effect this has on our
perceived self-worth and the formation of our identity
• The importance of failure as a fundamental part of success
Before that podcast I had impressions of him based solely on his TV show, but after watching this I realize he's actually a very intelligent guy that has a healthy and methodical approach to treatment. I like him now.
Apparently a huge portion of the psychotherapists around the globe may look at him as a joke and an insult to the practice, but I don't really have an opinion on that. I just judge him solely based on that podcast and the ideas and philosophy he portrayed in it, which I see nothing wrong with.
