SMIM started tripping in the 70s. I am surprised that no one else posting here has heard of the intense psycedelic music coming from Germany in the 70's. for use as triping backgound music. Such as; Ash Ra Tempel (w and wo Timothy Leary) Can (esp. Future Days, Tago Mago, Soon Ove Babaluma) Ammon Duul I and II Cluster Neu Harmonia Faust (esp So Far and Faust 4) and similiar stuff from france Heldon Pinhas Clearlight Symphony etc.etc. you can find these groups listed in the pitchfork list of greatest records of the 70's if interested. And are there no Jodorowsky fans about (El Topo, Holy Mountain) or reader of Philip K. Dick (esp. 3 stigmata of palmer eldrich, Scanner Darkly, ubik and do androids dream of electric sheep). Is there anybody who likes this stuff out there?

I've heard some crazy good ideas in music. Music to me is like idea, but it plays around. The strangest tunes can start to appear so so clever, you totally get it, what the guy was going for or heard in his head. The pure idea of it. This type of music, It sounds strange at first, But once you hear it to, it's like hearing what's really behind it.

Are the ledgends about acid and the greatful dead true? I'm not well versed in either of those, but when I do trip, it will probably be to their sweet sounds.

I have some Can in my collection, great stuff!

Thanks for the other suggestions, I'll check them out. There is at least one other Jodorowsky fan on here (not me), he's often mentioned.

Olomana is perfect kava kava music (70s Hawaain stuff, relaxing rather than trippy- 'Seabird' will make you drift away as you fill your beak full of root juice!)

NewShaman- yes the Dead all took acid, many artists did back them, but the Dead emerged from the original Californian acid scene, were the favourite band for the Merry Prankster's Acid Test parties, and were actually funded by Owsley the acid chemist- read 'Acid Dreams' for more info.

The only type of this music I know is Kraftwerk, although I heard about some of those mentioned above, such as Ash Ra Tempel, which reminds me of a Mahavishnu Orchestra or Miles Davis psychedelic period and star collaborations (Bitches brew), or Can.
Go check the Best movie ever, lots of discussion about Jodorowsky there.
Read the 3 stigmata, hard hallucination.

I'm very much a fan of Jodorowsky! My avatar is a photo by Ira Cohen by the name of "Alejandro Jodorowsky." I'm into Damo Suzuki from what he's done with Omar Rodiguez Lopez, but I actually haven't heard much of Can. My favorite stuff from the 70's is mostly punk, especially Joy Division, but I listen to a good deal of music that's strongly influenced by the psych-rock of the 70's, like Sun Araw, Vibes, and Acid Mothers Temple. I'd really like to find some of the more underground psychedelic music from that era and will have to listen to some of the music mentioned in this thread; I have a feeling it will end up dominating my Summer playlist.

Eventually I'll read "A Scanner Darkly," but I'm caught up in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" a stack of Nietzsche for the moment.
