Eleven self portraits over the course of one LSD trip

Personally I don't ever feel the need to capture the beauty of such states.
 
That's great. It's not a bad idea. I'm thinking I could do something similar with music. I could record a short theme that I could improvise before any noticeable effect, and then try re-recording it at different time intervals and see how it progresses.

I always feel the need but find it very difficult to do with any sort of style.
 
Do you think that those portraits were really painted while being on a LSD trip? I showed them to my friend, who is an artist, and he said it is impossible to draw anything like this during the trip, because lsd prevents you from doing such complex, focused-dependent things.

I personally don't have a clue, that's why I am asking. He is obviously prejudiced againts psychedelics, even though in the past he tried them several times. Still he can be right and at least in my case doing complicated things on a trip can be really hard.
 
I think it's possible. We don't know what the supposed dosage would have been. Or the level of tolerance the person may have had.

I still have some sketches in pencil and other drawings done in highlighter that my artist friend did in high school while tripping. I remember being awed that he could still draw anything in that state, but I witnessed it myself so I couldn't deny it.
 
I think this kind of documentation gives us more so an understanding of how the mind is functioning at the time under the influence. This is most likely a very difficult method.

The most common method most artists choose is to wait a few days or weeks after the trip so that the mind can generate a fully comprehensive translation of the experience.

Both are great because they show two different perspectives. Kudos to the artist for doing so well. The pictures are very beautiful.

I think you can't say that unless you really knew what the artist intended. I'm guessing it wasn't what we're looking at.

I think any skilled individual can pull it through with them, it just may not look as good to them the next day.
 
Yeah, I have to disagree with shadow, as well. The one time I did LSD was one of the most focused and coherent moments of my life. I drew a picture that has had a lasting imprint on my art today. LSD affects everyone differently, and in my case I had total control of my body and mind.

Psychedelics affect different people differently. Plain and simple. Let's take DMT for example. There are some people who could no sooner imagine themselves getting up during an intense DMT experience and walking around, for they typically have no body to walk around with, and even if they did, the notion of doing anything with it can seem absurd to them. DMT affects me differently. If I open my eyes mid experience, and I need to (and there have been multiple times where I've had to) I can simply get up and start walking around...oh trust me it's bizarre with multidimensional holograms popping out of the floor, walls and ceiling, with an undercurrent of etheric energy guiding every motion and step, but it's certainly possible for me. On one occasion I played my guitar literally from the start to finish of the experience for 10 minutes straight. It was quite coherent. Perhaps the act of music making isn't as focused-dependent - I don't know, would probably depend on the complexity and skill set of the artist/musician - but a full DMT experience is far more potent than most people LSD experiences (for all intents and purposes - please not trying to start an argument over this small point).

I'm sure that like the musician, the artist builds up his technical abilities so that in the case of a self portrait for example which the artist may have done countless times, if not other people's portraits, that there's a certain amount of automatic-how-to that minimizes the amount of focus required. In musicians for example, it has been found that exponentially less brain activity occurs in the execution of a sophisticated piece of music by a professional musician than the execution of a rudimentary piece of music by an amateur musician. In the case of this particular artist in question as posted in the OP, she probably had enough experience and where-with-all to easily sketch out the basic elements of the portrait, and as the LSD continued to kick in over a long period of time, it figuratively "colored" her self-perception thus altering the portraits along with just the simple boost in creativity that LSD can provide. LSD is really good at linking seemingly disparate thoughts and ideas which is really kind of the crux of creativity. I know that we have visionary artists here who create under the influence all the time. I'm pretty sure we have a thread dedicated to that very notion of artwork done while tripping.

Like I said in my previous post, I personally didn't know and I wasn't stating any opinion myself, so you couldn't really agree or disagree with me Mr.Peabody :).

I asked this question, because I don't want to promote any false notions of psychedelics. It's important for me to remain faithful to the truth. We all know that psychedelics are great and very useful, but they need to be treated with a lot of respect. Unfortunately there is this group of people who after taking psychedelics few times started excessively praising it as necessary for everyone no matter at what time or setting they would have taken it. I personally think we need to be more careful when compiling information and sharing all the knowledge about psychedelics.
