Hey

a friend has an emulsion problem, they decided to freeze their MH root bark, strait to base with lye
blended it with a food processor several times with naptha, then let it sit for 24 hours, .

There is an very thick emulsion, they have added salt and heated and some naphtha has came off but there is lots of naphtha left in the solution as only about 30 -40 percent has came off.

More salt was added and swirled but this seemed to make the liquid thicker, and after a further 24 hours no more naphtha has came off!

They have been advised to add more water to thin the solution out and not add any more lye or salt, is this good advice?

my friend has tried swirling the mixture with wire but the emulsion will not break.

my friend at present has a small ladies device under a large pan vibrating away in the hope this helps....

Can anyone give any input that may assist in breaking a stubborn emulsion due to over mixing.

Many thanks!

yeah it is in a warm water bath, swim has removed it and has read that gentle vibration can help break an emulsion, so now its sitting on a washing machine going through its cycle.

confirmed, breaking an emulsion can be done with gentle agitation.

placing pan / pot on washing machine has broken one of the hardest emulsions my friend has ever seen.

Along with periods of stiring with a whisk and the addition of salt and lye.

but it was the agitation that did it!

Hope this helps

Peace
