Migrated topic.

SWIM noticed that Lye will disolve glass. That being the case what should SWIM use as mixing and evaporating containers?

lol, Hmmmmmmmmmm........

I've been using the same two Ball half gallon jars for over three years for my extractions. I have left basic solution in them for as long as six months. I have done countless extractions in them. I mix my lye and water in them. I have heated them I have frozen them. I plan on using the same two jars for years to come.

IMO the glass is no thinner now than the day I bought them.

Do you understand what I'm saying here?

Might crack it if you're too hasty though. I think the best course of action here is to read more. And when you're done...read some more.

Bro,

DO NOT DO THE LAZYMAN TEK! I know firsthand that the lazyman tek (as written) requires many adjustments, you are better off starting with a different tek.

Seriously, go to the wiki and read the BLAB tek a few times. Take some notes.

The lazy tek is so very lame and outdated. Using a big bowl is a terrible idea.... as is using a potato masher, as is using bark without grinding it.

also, lye and water together make quite a bit of heat. I suppose that could cause glass to crack. Be careful and use a water bath to keep your jars cool if you are worried.

Alright alright..... I wrote that last post in a rush. (yes, I took time, in the middle of a busy day, to write a hasty "F____ the lazyman") Let me take a little time to knock this torture-tek proper-like.

I want to be clear.... you're posting in the grown-folk side of the forum. We don't "do" lazyman teks over here :)

The general principle is cool: lye in water to high ph, add bark and allow to mingle, put some solvent on top to collect goodies, pour off solvent and evap to get your end result.

But, By all that is holy, that this is the most pain in the ass way to do those simple steps.

Knowing what we know now, following that tek (as written) is an exercise in masochism.

Do the whole thing in a gallon milk/water jug. Much easier to pour with. A turkey baster works great even better. Now go ahead and evapp if you want...ala lazy man. Or look up freeze precipitation.

The BLAB tek is a great alternative and is super effective
