discovered a jar that had started to run and was about to break, but can't recall when this happened...needless to say it will be recycled noticed another jar, which had been previously used, that has what looks like a thin etch started in it, but cannot be felt either on the outside or inside of the jar (no noticeable cracking) if one was to put lye into water in this second jar, what are the chances of it breaking/exploding and the contents spilling out everywhere? swim figures if it can survive the initial heat and pressure change, it would be safe to use at least once before being retired tried searching to no avail and wasn't quite sure where this topic belonged

use a plastic milk jug..and transfer over to the glass to avoid the heat stressing the glass. Or just start using plastic jugs, they are easy and work great. much more affordable to replace as well.

well, found that out...decided to gently tap the jar full of water against the counter, and it busted out where the etch was...glad it was just water and not flour or soup plastic all the way any specific number jug or will any milk/water container do?
