extracting alkaloids from leonotis leonurus (wild dagga)

does anyone know if one could extract wild dagga with alcohol? i got like 3 kilos of leaves that need to be compressed.

anyone got any ideas? could acetone extraction work?

these threads show that alcohol and acetone both seem to work.. it results in some sort of black waxy extract. the question would be how to refine this further.

any ideas? could one try defatting with naphtha?

Not worth it IMHO.

Dagga is pretty weak. Have you tried an A/B on any of your material? If the actives are in fact alkaloids that might be the way to go.

hmm.. i could try that. i've had 25x extract of it once and it was pretty nice. the store said they made it with one of those cold extractor things. i dont know what those do tho. dagga is very nice together with sceletium and cannabis. but only the resin or extract is good. the leaves or flowers are just to weak you'd have to be smokin all day to maintain an effect.

Oh a cold finger extractor. You can make one if you are slightly handy. Look it up, there are pretty detailed instructions on the net.

It's basically an alcohol extraction though.

i just looked them up.. seems very simple and very cool. all i will need for building one myself will be a big erlenmeyer flask with a wide mouth, a round bottle for dripping in which the ice will be put and some kind of collection container under it.

do the plant oils still stay in the alcohol even if it is in vaporized form?

can one also use this to make hash from weed? that would be awesome!

It works, so I assume yes, they stay in there.

You can't make hash this way, but you can make a hash oil-type substance. The heat may degrade some of the THC though.

i guess the point of this type of extraction is to keep the heat as low as possible anyway. alcohol starts evaporating pretty good at around 40-50C .. thc degrades from 21C upwards. thats why weed growing in cold mountain air is always the one with the best high. damn how i love swiss weed!

but makin hash oil with alcohol would be a waste.. making honey oil is really easy with propane.

i'd love to try makin some of my own kratom oil tho. that would be quite cool! i also think this might help in mushroom extraction. i bet one could bypass all the filtering completely with this method.

when i have it set up i will try dissolving some mushroom goo in alcohol and evaporating it in the coldfinger. what do you think about this idea?

hahah.. man.. you seem to be one of the most active members on the forum. i always get a response from you first ;)

The heat would probably degrade the mushroom actives...they are quite fragil from what I have read.

Kratom on the other hand would work very well in a cold finger.

well i know that psilocybin can handle about 80C with no problems. alcohol even evaporates at 50C i'd just put it on a warmkeeping platter. 69ron said that psilocybin can even handle far more than 80C. he said he cooked it in a pressure cooker for an hour and had little to no degradation at all. this needs to be tried!
