Extracting Harmalas From Rue Extract

Hi Guys

I have approx 15g of X5 Syrian Rue powder.

I want to further purify it and extract the harmalas.

What would be the best Tek for this, or is it not really worth bothering.

Dissolve extract in water with a splash of vinegar (vinegar not necessary unless you have fairly basic tap water). Filter/decant. Base filtered solution with sodium carbonate
Decant, wash in normal water (just make sure water isn't acidic), decant. Repeat wash/decant until ph8.

A normal extraction, basically.

If it is truly a 5x it should have up to 4.5g of harmala alkaloids, even if it was only 1x it should have almost 1g. And considering that the process is simple, it is definitely worth a try. here's one way to go about it.

-Boil the 5x for 15 mins in some water (200 ml for example) and a bit of distilled white vinegar, strain through a piece of cotton cloth, press it to get most of the liquid out. repeat once or twice.
-basify the combined liquids with sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate solution, let the freebase harmalas settle and decant the water.
-do 2 or 3 water washes: top the container with fresh water, wait for harmalas to settle and decant.

you can stop here and collect the freebase harmalas by removing most of the liquid and drying the freebase on a wide dish with a fan.

if you get a significant yield and want to refine it more you can do some more steps.
