SWIM tried out the FASA method for the first time, using an MHRB A/B (phosphoric acid for acid-ification) with toluene pulls.
The FASA precipitation went very smoothly, however the conversion of the dried fumarate back to freebase seems to have gone awry (Method 1 from: DMT Fumarate to DMT Freebase - DMT-Nexus Wiki).
Swim may have had too much total volume of fumarate initially... and has ended up with a small beaker of some amount of remaining fumarate (dried around the rim, scraped and collected) and ~100mL of an aqueous solution that should contain DMT Freebase, and a saturated amount of H2O with Sodium Carbonate. This completely froze over in the freezer, and when thawed out, looks like a solution of clear water.
Is there any way to separate the freebase fin the aqueous solution, either back into DMT fumarate, or into the freebase? SWIM seems to have reached some regime where the overstaurated sodium carbonate solution cannot be filtered to get the freebase crystals.
