Favorite fonts?

I was listening to a radio program about people's choices of fonts the other day that got me thinking. How many of you have a favorite font? What is it, and why?

When typing, I prefer san-serif fonts, but Arial and Helvetica really don't do it for me. Calibri has a nice feel, but I tend to use Corbel because there's something about lowercase numerals that I find comforting. For reading, I prefer serif fonts, but Times New Roman feels too cold and stodgy. Old Style serif fonts like Garamond are more my speed... I can't quite put my finger on why, but they feel warmer and cozier.

So what's your font?

Favourites? For sans serif faces I love FF DIN for its boldness, I don’t think I have a favourite serif typeface!

My favorite font is plain text. Most of what I do requires characters to be as simple as possible. That said,

-For publishing I prefer the default TeX output which I believe to be Computer Modern.

As implied by the name, Computer Modern is a modern font. Modern, or "Didone", fonts have high contrast between thick and thin elements, and their axis of "stress" or thickening is perfectly vertical. Computer Modern, specifically, is based on Monotype Modern 8a, and like its immediate model it has a large x-height relative to the length of ascenders and descenders.

The most unusual characteristic of Computer Modern, however, is the fact that it is a complete type family designed with the METAFONT system. The Computer Modern source files are governed by 62 distinct parameters, controlling the widths and heights of various elements, the presence of serifs or old-style numerals, whether dots such as the dot on the "i" are square or rounded, and the degree of "superness" in the bowls of lowercase letters such as "g" and "o". Computer Modern is by no means the only METAFONT-designed typeface, but it is by far the most mature and widely used.

-For print work I utilize dafont.com and hunt for whatever fits my mood. Most are free with no registration required.

When I'm writing long documents, my favorite standard font is Verdana at 10pt.
For instant messengers I use Tahoma at 9pt and bold.
For applications and interfaces I love using tiny fonts. My favorite pixel font is Tenacity by MiniFonts. They have a bunch of other great tiny fonts as well.
My favorite futuristic font is Neuropol
