Filtering saturated solvent from Na2CO3/fumarate paste?

Migrated topic.

When swim filters his dry ipa or acetone from sodium carb/fumarate paste, the ipa or acetone always comes through carrying a cloudy, fine particulate.......know what I mean? It annoys the crap out of swim.

He's used different filtering methods and filter papers, but whatever it is, keeps coming through the filter anyway....especially if the paper + paste is squeeze to get out every bit of solvent.

So, the question is.......

How do other swims' filter their saturated solvents from the paste?....ie, methodology, filter paper type, getting every bit of solvent, etc...

* sorry if this isn't the appropriate subforum...wasn't sure which one it fit into.

SWIM had the exact same problem, and though never worried too much about it, since those solids are inert and the amount was quite minimal, he went ahead and developed a reliable way to deal with it: Amor fati's Approach to Freebase Spice Conversion - DMT-Nexus Wiki

Simply dump all material (the dry MgSO4,sodium carbonate, sodium fumarate, freebase DMT mixture) into a small THP, wash the mixing vessel with SWIY's choice solvent, pour solvent through THP, collect and repeat as necessary. The solvent should come out crystal clear albeit a bit yellow from desirable solutes, but if it does come out cloudy on the first wash, it won't with the second wash.

That sounds good, but SWIM isn't too keen on using cotton. It's apparently the most sprayed/chemical-laden crop.

Nothing against SWIY using it.

He just can't get over the thought of pouring these solvents through the potentially chemical-laden cotton. So he's avoided it so far.

Maybe he's just being paranoid?

I suppose SWIY could try organic cotton.

Yeah...if it's available locally.

SWIM's never had great luck with paper filters for anything.

Yeah, this swim is frustrated with them for this purpose.

Anyone one else care to share how they go about it?

SWIM went to the health food store and missed the very last bag of organic cotton balls by a few minutes.

Then he went to the local super market, and to the small 'healthy' section, and found Swisspers organic cotton rounds. :d ....little round cotton pads.

They look like they'll work well. He'll test em' a little later.

Still, if anyone has a different sort of way of doing it, would be glad to hear it.
