Hello Nexus!
I have been an independent researcher for the past 7 years in a vast variety of different subjects. I am also an artist and musician of about 11 years, playing many instruments from around the world. I have been more or less involved in Qi Kung (energy techniques used heavily in Asia, and other parts of the world) for the past 12 years. Since I began my independent research 7 years ago, I have been on a very serious "Quest" for something that I can't quite put my finger on... However this "Quest" of mine has led me to various disciplines and sources of information in a sort of search for "meaning", "truth", "identity" and what have you.
I became introduced to hallucinogenic substances in my teens, as many people do. To me they were "just other drugs", and didn't really hold any significance to me, other than producing very peculiar experiences. It wasn't until I had eaten a "heroic dose" of Cyanescens one night in the dark did I realize what psilocybin really was when utilized under the proper circumstances: A Gateway to Hyperspace. I was "downloaded" with all kinds of highly complex and well organized information about the nature of reality, consciousness, duality (Light/Dark, Yin/Yang, etc.), among many other things. I found myself living as some kind of higher dimensional being in this out-of-body state for what felt like EONS of "time". I had access to all kinds of information that was hitherto unavailable to my consciousness. As mind-blowing as the experience was, I still didn't understand it's significance, as I was still relatively ignorant and had not become involved in any type of serious research at that point.
After the research or "Quest" began in 2005, I began to look at these hallucinogenic plants with a new perspective. In the beginning, I was studying all kinds of subjects in the realm of "Quantum Physics", general Metaphysics, and having Out of Body Experiences/Lucid Dreams in the process. I basically have a 7 year background in the occult, and related subjects. I knew from my experiences that psilocybin could launch one out of ones body if used in the right way, but the places that you end up exploring are so much more "multi-dimensional" than a traditional OOBE. I wanted to understand HOW these substances produced such experiences, as well as how it allows one access to all kinds of information in this state of trance.
I don't currently use psychedelic substances, although I am considering having a series of explorations, but for a very different reason than I think most people would. There are very specific aspects of the DMT experience that I am very interested in researching, and I'm coming to the realization that the only way I may have to do this research is to "go there" myself. With the exception of one mushroom induced exploration in hyperspace, I haven't really used psychedelics in over 3 years, and prior to that I was a relatively active explorer. I am still interested in the subject for research related purposes, which is part of why I'm joining the Nexus. I have been reading many of the threads quite a bit in the past week, and most of you are very insightful.
I had an experience with ayahuasca in October of 2007... Five years ago. That was my introduction to DMT, and I had a full blown experience. I have had a very successful yopo experience. I have also smoked both DMT as well as 5-meo-DMT. Many people don't know that psilocybin is 4-PO-DMT, a close cousin of DMT, which is why they have many similarities. I have probably had more experiences with psilocybin than anything, partially due to the fact that some very potent cyanescens grow out here in the Pacific Northwest right around this time of year. I have also used Peruvian torch and peyote, and many other plants in a series of what I refer to as "Experiments in Consciousness".
I had a "nudge from within" to quit using hallucinogens 3 years ago so that I could do my research with a state of mind that wasn't being influenced by my experiences with these substances. I do a lot of research on altered states on consciousness in general, so I wanted to have a "clear head", so to speak, to protect the integrity of the work I do. I feel I have some very unique perspectives to bring to the table here at the Nexus. I know from talking with people in my area, and reading sites like this, that I have a very different view on stuff like DMT than most people, and raise a lot of questions that I don't hear a lot of people asking. I would be very happy to be able to make a contribution to this community. What you guys are doing here at the Nexus is very informative and helpful for people trying to learn more about this phenomenon. The DMT mystery certainly is a very perplexing one...
This may sound like a funny thing to say, possibly somewhat hypocritical, but maybe some of you will understand what I mean... I am not "Pro-DMT", but I'm not "Anti-DMT". I'm not necessarily "in support" of people using it, but I'm not necessarily "against" people using it. My position is very "neutral" on this subject. If individuals choose to explore this realm, than that is their Free Will. I do not think that this whole realm of experience is without purpose, but I can't necessarily condone it... It's way too serious to just casually recommend to the naive, and you deep explorers will know what I'm talking about. The DMT experience is really in a whole other realm. It is sort of an open mystery to me. I think that the people who encounter it, encounter it for a reason.
I look forward to sharing experiences & information!
