First DMT Experience

Rising Star
This happened a few weeks ago. I wrote up the experience within a couple hours of having it. Here is pretty much exactly what I wrote in my notes (I deleted a few personal things). For background, I have previous experience with psilocybin (approximately 10 times, usually use it for insight whenever a significant change has recently occurred in my life) LSA (used several times before I found psilocybin), and nitrous (never really found this too useful though). My purposes for using psychedelics are mainly to gain insight into my own unconscious thought processes, and to learn more about how my mind and the universe work. Anyway, just thought I would share.

Took a small sample, about the size of a match head, and placed in a test tube. Got a straw to inhale the vapor with. Placed a cup to put the test tube and straw in next to the bed. Laid on side. Heated test tube with a lighter until could see white vapor. Inhaled it through straw. Vapor was harsh and made me cough. Inhaled again. Laid back with eyes closed. Could feel some slight body effects and saw some weak closed-eye visuals - just patterns. After minute or two, opened eyes. Everything in the room seemed to have a yellow tint to it. This dissipated within a minute or two. Not much of an experience I thought.

I wanted to try a larger amount, and hold the vapor longer. I waited an hour, so any tolerance would dissipate. This time I used a larger amount - about the size of a pea. I heated slowly with a lighter. But I wasn't seeing any white vapor this time. I heated more, and could see the liquid boiling and condensing on the side of the test tube. I began inhaling, and now I could see the white vapor condensing. I took a long breath and held it. I felt my body growing heavier, so I quickly placed the hot test tube in the cup I had waiting nearby. I had so little time to put the test tube up that I let the straw drop into the test tube, where later I found it had partially melted.

Within just a few seconds, ZOOM! My body felt very heavy as I exhaled, and objects in the room seemed to be split up and flying everywhere. I started to get scared, but I told myself that this was part of the experience and that I would be fine - I just needed to see the experience through. With my eyes open it seemed like objects in the room were everyplace at once, so I closed my eyes. I saw colors but no forms. It seemed like I got into sort of a loop. I would watch the colors for a while, then start to get scared due to the intensity of the experience (particularly body sensations of heaviness and numbness). So I would open my eyes, and everything in the room seemed to be in front of me at once. Still, seeing familiar objects was comforting, and I would forget my fear and close my eyes to see the colors again. This repeated several times. The intensity of the experience didn't seem constant - more like it came and went in waves.

I had a bad taste in my mouth and did not want to swallow. I was drooling, and it seemed important that I not swallow. So I tried to spit into the cup nearby. It was hard to find the coordination and presence of mind to spit into the cup, but eventually I did. The experience continued to come and go in waves, but the intensity was decreasing. I kept my eyes closed. The colors were fading. After what seemed like several more minutes, I opened my eyes again. Everything in the room had a strong yellow hue, and if I stared at objects I saw colors (mostly blue) around the edges of them. I could still see the walls rippling.

When most of the effects were gone, I figured that probably a half hour to 45 minutes had passed. But when I checked the clock, it had only been 10 minutes since I inhaled!

This was an intense and interesting experience, but it happened so suddenly and was over so fast that it doesn't seem I gained much in the way of insights from it. However, kind of like when riding a roller coaster, I have the urge to repeat the experience and will likely do so in the future.

I can definitely relate to the "waves" you describe. Not physical sensations but rather, wave-like intensity. I like the final wave, once you think everything is coming down then it hits once more just to joke with you :p

I find there's almost an "attunement" process in the sense that you get accustomed to it's effects pretty fast. After the first few trips where it scared me I could finally ease into things better.

Good, that's exactly what you need to do.

Within just a few seconds, ZOOM!
Haha, sounds about right. By the time I finish the second hit I'm always getting tunnel vision and everything in the room seems to be turning darker. The bong feels like it weighs 100lbs and I can't really operate a lighter successfully. It happens so fast that I've started closing my eyes and tripping while I'm still holding in the second/third hit.

What you should try doing is keeping your eyes closed the entire time, imho. The fear and worry will keep you stuck the loop. I think the best advice I can give, is try to breathe slow and deep. It's a tricky thing considering you can't really feel your body, but you'll get the hang of it. I find the higher the dose, the less I worry about breathing. I had a hard time letting go of the body because I was worried about breathing. You are able to breathe in and out, flowing with the trip almost like a rhythm. It's quite reassuring.

Yeah I've found this to be very true, but I guess because of the sheer volume of information that your brain is taking in throughout the experience, your mind somehow believes time is going a lot faster than it really is.

Everything in the room had a strong yellow hue
I can relate to this as well, I have cream coloured walls at home and have found that they appear to be a golden yellow on the comedown of a trip, I havent realy thought about this much, as during the comedown of a trip I am more intent on making sense of the trip I had just been on than this. :d

Glad you enjoyed your journey. 8)

I have had a few more experiences since the first. I don't think I have actually "broken through" on any of the trips (which is fine for now). I say that because I have never lost sight of how I got into the state and am always able to think and reason fairly clearly during the entire trip. Here are some things I've noticed.

1. DMT condensing from the smoke makes my lips and tongue numb, and this affects the trip. It seems like this numbness peaks late in the trip, and it gradually wears off until it is gone in about an hour. I also notice a bitter taste in my mouth. Because of this, during the trip I've felt like someone or something was sucking on my tongue, and I've also felt like I was at the dentist getting some tooth work done under novicaine. I once sensed a female entity, and imagined her as a dentist. I could not see a specific form - it was more like a pink blob. She seemed to have a definite purpose (to do work on my mouth). She seemed compassionate, but in a professional instead of a personal way (kind of like a nurse).

2. I hear a "hum" during the trips. This sounds to me like a well-tuned, smooth-running engine way off in the distance. I don't imagine it as a spaceship - more like being in a factory somewhere, although I can see how some people might feel like they are in a spaceship.

3. Another "sound", especially during the comeup, is some sort of a beat that sounds like it fades in and out rapidly at several cycles per second. I have gotten this before as well on psilocybin. It almost feels like I'm listening to my "brain waves" oscillating at a low frequency. There seem to be 3 parts to the cycle (it sounds like "whum whum whum, whum whum whum, whum whum whum...." ).

4. My body often feels like putty, like it could flow and ooze through the bed where I am laying.

5. If I feel my head with my hand, it feels tiny, like its the size of say a baseball. I have noticed this sometimes before on psylocybin as well.

6. As the trip is ending and I open my eyes, I see visual effects similar to a moderate dose of psilocybin (wavy motion in objects, distortion of distances and proportions), plus color distortions which seem to be unique to dmt (yellow tint to everything, dark blue borders around objects when I stare at them).

Maybe you are burning your spice? What method of smoking are you using?

yes, the crux of it. hard to do sometimes but it's the key for me to get to deeper spaces. it's a spiritual surrender. i've found that over the years i get better at it.

Possible, but I doubt it. I'm using a test tube to heat it and a straw to inhale.

Incidentally, I did just find a way to keep from getting a numb tongue and lips from the vapor. First I tried having some water in my mouth - but this did not work because some of the water dropped into the test tube as I tried to brethe through the straw. So instead I folded up part of a paper towel and moistened it with water. I held the straw inside this in my mouth as I breathed in, then spit it out once I was finished inhaling the vapor. Worked quite well. I still got a bitter taste in my mouth, but almost no numbness to interfere with the trip.

yes! That exactly the sound I hear. I would describe it as someone laughing in an extremely peculiar manner, almost whisper-like. Like "wah wah wa-w-w-waaaaaaahhhhh waaaaahhhh waaaaahhhhh wah w-w-w-whaaaaa". It's like the sound morphs with the trip and creates a sort of rhythm. Everything moves faster when the sound goes faster.

I "think" the yellow tint is just too much light entering your eyes or something. I've had a similar yellow tint before when the eye doc put some drops in.
